Cameron Young

Jackson, Mississippi, USA

Country Club of Jackson

Quick Quotes

Q. Nice playing today. I know you just said you made a few mistakes but overall you have to be very pleased with how you played this week?

CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, for the most part. I had some different things working each day. First day I drove it great and kind of didn't get it in the hole until the very end. Then next few days I've driven it kind of sideways and but I've chipped and putted really well. Today I hit some better iron shots. So I kind of didn't get all the things going at once or for multiple days but I had some part of it working at every day during the week.

Q. What does that say about the state of your game already in this young season?

CAMERON YOUNG: I think I've been going the right direction for a while now. I missed a bunch of cuts kind of the end of the Korn Ferry season, not playing bad golf I just wasn't getting it in the hole. I wasn't scoring well. I think it just is a step in the right direction with my scoring and with being able to put a score on the board even when I'm not on all cylinders and not necessarily hitting it in the right spots and not hitting it where I'm looking. So I think it's just proof that I can do that.

Q. Not only is this a great finish, but also got you into Vegas next week. It's got to be nice to lighten the load and not have to go to the Monday qualifier tomorrow?

CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, absolutely that's a huge relief. That was the, when we started, the goal was to get into Vegas and then the last couple days being up around the lead goal is to win the golf tournament. But yeah, I mean, happy to get to go play, happy to not have to play the Monday, any starts are good starts and I'm really happy that I get to go.

Q. It seems easy to say that everyone's out there to win, but as a rookie on the PGA TOUR there's a lot of other things that go on, but you were, you seemed to be out there, you were gunning for it, you weren't looking at just posting a top-10 or posting a top-5 you wanted to go out there and win. Where does that mentality come from even though you're just a rookie and in your second start on the PGA TOUR?

CAMERON YOUNG: That's why we play. I don't think anyone's out here that just wants to finish in the top 10, I think if you asked anybody at the beginning of the week say what do you want to do this week they would say they want to win. I don't know, I mean, that's just why I play, that's what I enjoy, I love being in contention, I love feeling the nerves, so it was fun today, I enjoyed it, even though it might not have looked like it, but that's where I'm at my most comfortable is kind of in those situation, trying to make a couple birdies. I knew Sam was ahead of me and I had to make a couple and just didn't, but I will another time.

Q. You're a stoic individual, you don't show a lot outwardly, what was going on inside as you were creeping up the leaderboard and getting full on in contention today?

CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, I mean, nothing out of the ordinary. I was really just trying to keep it in play as well as I could and manage it around the greens because if you don't you're going to make some bogeys. So I was just really focused on kind of executing the plan that we had and just trying to make a bunch of birdies, because you have to.
