ALFRED DUNHILL LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP

October 2, 2021

Tyrrell Hatton

St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland

Quick Quotes

Q. Describe what the score was like and describe conditions out there today?

TYRRELL HATTON: Yeah, obviously got off to a very nice start, and then just hit a couple of loose shots, and feel like just lost all momentum, to be honest. I think from like the 8th hole, just never really got anything going our way. It was never -- I think there was only a couple of times where I had a realistic birdie chance, and I hit a good putt, and it bobbled off line or whatever.

And that kind of just seemed to, like I said, take the momentum away.

There was a few times where on the back nine, on certainly the last six, seven holes where it played really tough, certainly when the rain started coming down, pretty miserable. But where I hit some core shots, it just caught the edge of a bunker, and then I'm playing out sideways.

On other days, when you hit a bad shot, when you've got it seems like a bit of momentum, it will maybe bounce out and you've got a better shot.

So a little bit disappointed how I played the back nine, but we live to fight another day.

Q. Absolutely. You're right back there, in the mix again this year. What's the secret to playing well in this tournament?

TYRRELL HATTON: Well, like I said, you need a bit of luck when you do hit some bad shots. So hitting bad shots throughout the week, and certainly in conditions like what we've had today, the putter has been working well again this year, which has been a huge part of my success in this tournament in previous years. Be nice to make up for when I messed up the chance to win three in a row a few years back, five-shot lead on the back nine, not that I still remember it.

But let's hope the back nine is a bit nice to me tomorrow, and I can play a bit better.

Q. What would it mean to win?

TYRRELL HATTON: It would be very special. I actually haven't won with my dad, so it's a shame that we can't play again tomorrow. We haven't quite made it in the team event. That little run on the back nine seemed to hurt us, both of us. But obviously I'll go out there tomorrow and give it my best, and that's all you can do.
