Quick Quotes

Q. Other than the 4-putt on 11 you happy with the rest of your round?

HAROLD VARNER III: I just didn't hit as many fairways today so that was a bummer. Yeah, I did 4-putt, I went brain dead. But it happens and we'll just figure it out.

Q. When those type of things happen is it easy to kind of just push it aside and just continue to play or does it sometimes fester a little bit?

HAROLD VARNER III: No, it's not easy, but your job's just to be a professional, do your job and I'm like super excited to be able to respond like that. I missed the green on the next hole, got it up-and-down, had a good look and then I made two birdies coming in. So that was, it didn't look like it on the scorecard it just seemed like it was easy holes, but you still got to get up there and birdie them and I just am kind of happy that I did that. Obviously it's a good score, but like can you respond is the biggest thing and obviously in life but obviously in golf.

Q. Are you pleased with your position through 36?

HAROLD VARNER III: We'll see how we are today. Obviously I know I wish I would have -- I think it's going to get to like 12 and just the way it is out here you just need to be as close as you can get.

Q. Are you playing with your cell phone on or are you --

HAROLD VARNER III: No, I'm not, but my caddie is. Yeah, we're dialed in. We'll know. It will be like HV, WD.

Q. Does he have it on vibrate?

HAROLD VARNER III: He just checks it.

Q. How many times a round is he checking it?

HAROLD VARNER III: I don't know. How many times a round are you checking it? Four? Four.

Q. Have you plotted out the shortest way to get from A to B like how quickly could you get home like have you figured it out?

HAROLD VARNER III: I like my chances a lot. I think we're super fortunate to have unbelievable people and to make enough money to be able to make this happen. Because if I was flying commercial I'm not really sure it would be as easy or possible at all. It wasn't going to be possible, I wasn't going to play.

Q. You got to get back to Gastonia?

HAROLD VARNER III: Yeah, G-Town.

Q. And have you practiced like the things that you're going to have to do like on a little doll, like changing diapers and things like that?

HAROLD VARNER III: No, hell no. Who practices that? No I just sit there and you be a dad, you figure it out. The same thing you done your whole life, you just figure it out. And I think it's -- especially, everyone's going to tell you what to do, how to do it and I just don't, I don't always believe in that. Obviously there's good advice, but my job is to be a father and I think if there was a book to do it, I think we would all be reading this book.

Q. There are a lot of books.

HAROLD VARNER III: I haven't read one.

Q. Lastly, there are a ton of dad's out here and I'm sure some of them have sidled up to you and tried to tell you some advice here and there?

HAROLD VARNER III: Yeah, the biggest thing for me is going to be traveling. I've never had a hard time leaving at all, but seeing my wife like as big as she is and just the things she was going through, it was a lot different than it's ever been. Super weird, can't explain it, don't know what it is. If I could tell you I would write a book about it and not play golf, I would make a lot of money. But it is totally different.

Q. You'll get back to action in January or February or something or how much time do you think you'll take off?

HAROLD VARNER III: I'm not taking any time off. That kid's got to eat. That formula isn't cheap. No, I'm going to play, hopefully if everything goes well I'm going to play CJ Cup, Zozo, and then hopefully take some time off. But at the end of the day that kid's not cheap and I still love playing golf and my wife's not working. So it's this thing called being a father, provide, you figure it out. And I'm super excited about it.
