U.S. MID-AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

September 29, 2021

Christian Sease

Siasconset, Massachusetts, USA

Sankaty Head Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Talk about that finish; I thought his chip shot was in the hole.

CHRISTIAN SEASE: I did, too. It was a grind. Just coming into 16, I actually hit -- my approach shot hit the flagstick, kicked back about 100 feet and then was able to get up and down. Had about -- just barely missed a birdie. Had about 12 feet for par and made it. We both birdied 17, and then, gosh, he hit such a good chip. There was nothing you could do. When I had that opportunity, I knew I just had to take it, had to make that one. Didn't want to go to extras. Just so glad it fell.

Q. Four and a half feet; was there much break at all?

CHRISTIAN SEASE: So it probably broke about six inches to the right. It had a little bit of snap. Obviously it was a little hard to trust that that thing was -- playing it out there and trust it was going to come back. I had a similar putt at one point during the day, so I felt pretty good about it.

Q. Wind has changed around today, it's from the north. How much did that change the course?

CHRISTIAN SEASE: Oh, my gosh, it changed a lot. A lot of different carries on a lot of these -- especially on those par-4s. Well, I actually drove hole 5 today, and I think I had about 150 in yesterday, so there was a lot of holes that played a little bit different. It was a little bit of an adjustment, but I think Devon and I both did a great job just adjusting to that on the fly.

Q. Whoever you play next is a quality opponent; do you know much about --

CHRISTIAN SEASE: Yeah, I know Stephen very well. He's an incredible player. Won the Byron Nelson, of course, Stewart, I think he played in like five U.S. Opens. Obviously he's won this. Yeah, I'm excited, excited for the challenge, ready to get out there. Happy I'm exempt next year so I don't have to worry about qualifying, but yeah, definitely blessed to be in this position but ready to go out and fight after lunch and for the next match.
