Sunday Singles Matches
Q. Justin, you've been on both sides, you were on the losing end in Paris. How would you explain this scenario?
JUSTIN THOMAS: It's hard to explain. It's such a great group of guys, great group of captains. I don't know, I mean, as soon as we had our practice last week, something, it felt right. I said that to everyone on my team. Just this feels like a team that is determined, and we are all really good players. And Strick knew that, and he did a great job of just asking us our input and just let us go play.
Q. How important is it in this format, even though you know you go about your business by yourselves, but to get this job done collectively?
JUSTIN THOMAS: Well, it is huge, but at the same time when we are out there, we've just got to go get a point. We can't worry about what other matches are doing or what other guys on the team are doing. All we can do is just play like hell to go get a point. That's what we all did.
Q. How important is it for you to come back out here after winning your match to support your good friend Jordan?
JUSTIN THOMAS: It's a lot. It's great to be on this side of it to where it's already done, and it's very hard for these guys to, I'm sure, concentrate and finish. I had a hard time really focusing. I was in such a zone and got out of it in the middle of the round.
We're a team. We win as a team, and we lose as a team, and this week we win as a team. I couldn't be more excited and proud of everybody.
Q. You're an emotional leader out here. The PGA of America runs deep in your family with your grandfather, and your father is also your swing coach. How impactful is that for you and your family?
JUSTIN THOMAS: I've watched a lot of Ryder Cups on TV. This is only my second one. I was at Valhalla when I was, what, 15 years old and watched Team USA win. I'm just glad I get to hold that cup tonight on the winning team and enjoy the night.
Q. Your dad is not here this week. Why not?
JUSTIN THOMAS: He had a little health issue going on, but I know we stayed in touch a bunch and he was very helpful. Hate not having him here. Missed you all week, Pops, but I know he'll be at plenty more.
