LAVER CUP

September 22, 2021

Daniil Medvedev

Boston, Massachusetts, USA

Press Conference

Q. It's so good to see you, and congratulations from just a couple of weeks ago. Has it sunk in?

DANIIL MEDVEDEV: Great. I mean, the buzz is a little bit less, at least from what I'm seeing on the streets, if we can say like this, and what I'm seeing in the media. It's great.

You know, I had a week off, just great time, celebrating a little bit the victory. Just, yeah, as you say, soaking it all in.

Now next tournament is coming, and just looking forward to playing great tennis.

Q. Has it brought a different perspective for you?

DANIIL MEDVEDEV: To be honest, not so much. It's just a goal that I accomplished that not so many players managed to do. That's great, because I was dreaming about it since I was young. I was dreaming about it even more after my two finals.

Yeah, it's like I know that nobody can take it away from me. It's already done. That's the best feeling. After, I want to play better. I want to try to get more titles, either if it's Grand Slam, Masters, or Laver Cup, or just to win another match. That's how I approach it.

Q. You mentioned Laver Cup. Coming to Boston for this Laver Cup, your thoughts on this weekend coming up.

DANIIL MEDVEDEV: Exciting, because that's my first time. Usually this tournament is during St. Petersburg tournament. I was playing St. Pete before because the tournament is great.

This week, there was no choice for me. I really wanted to come to see how the tournament is. I think it's gonna be exciting. Every player who has already played here is telling that it's just great fun and actually really competitive. That's the most important thing I think in sports.

Q. A new look, the haircut.

DANIIL MEDVEDEV: Yeah, I had long hair. I think during US Open was still all right, and then when I went on vacation, I was, like, No, that's just too long. So it's definitely not a new haircut, just a bit shorter.

Q. Do you think in future that maybe Trivial Pursuit could have a question about you and it could be, "Who stopped history from happening in tennis?"

DANIIL MEDVEDEV: Oh, yeah, definitely. I want to say of course it's better to be there making history, but so far I'm really far from doing that. I know what we have already in tennis and which players we had before and now, so at least I think this one is definitely a possible question, yep.
