TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

September 2, 2021

Collin Morikawa

Atlanta, Georgia, USA

East Lake Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. How does the swing feel after going through the day?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Yeah, it was great. It felt like I was hitting myself. I just gave away so many shots chipping. I think I made one up-and-down, which you can't do out here, and that's what this course does. It tests all parts of your game.

But I feel like I'm hitting it well. I thought I was hitting putts really well, they were just lipping out, but really excited for the next three days.

Q. Last night's dinner, what was the vibe like?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Oh, it was good. It was exciting to finally put all of us, or six of us in one room and just start talking about what we're going to do in a few weeks. Look, the end goal is to win, and Stricker knows that. I think everyone knows that. I think looking at the past, obviously the history of the U.S. team hasn't been great, but we are here to change that. That I think everyone knows that and we're all going to do our part to help out the team as much as we can.

Q. Was there any talk of possibility of captains picks or meshing personalities and stuff like that?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Yeah, we talked about it all. Some guys know other guys better than others and it's just finding who is going to fit the best and who is playing the best and their overall work. It's not like we're just deciding off one week or seven weeks ago. It's thinking about the entire process and we have some good candidates, obviously, I think the team's going to be very well rounded.

Q. Definitely your first one, but you're a smart guy, do you have any diagnosis about why you think Europe has done so well at this event and America has struggled from what you've seen?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: We can go into it for a long time. You can nitpick here and there, and I think there's so many other variables that I think if we just stick to a certain thing and we really commit to that process, we'll do a lot better. I think there's just been a lot thrown up in the air, a lot of changes, last minute things with the teams, and I don't think we're going to be doing that this year.

Q. Any idea of who is on your dance card as potential partners maybe?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: You know, it's still up in the air. Obviously I have a few in mind, but I think we're going to see when we start playing practice rounds. Obviously, I know everyone on this team and I have played with all of them, but like you said, you want to vibe well with everyone and you want to be on the same page. I'm going to trust anyone out there, but you like a few people a little more than others.

Q. Dumb question, but are you excited? Do you think about it at night?

COLLIN MORIKAWA: Yeah, no, I actually haven't thought about it. My focus is on this week and I'll worry about it when I get there.
