Harris English

Owings Mills, Maryland, USA

Caves Valley Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Harris, what was it like to play with somebody shooting 60, to have a chance for 59 and actually have a chance at 58?

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, it was really cool. Jordan and I were talking about it yesterday; if he keeps driving it the way is he, he can shoot whatever he wants to shoot. I haven't seen him drive it this well since I've played with him. I've played with him probably 10 or 12 times out here, and he's driving it incredible.

Obviously hitting -- he hit 8-iron into 16. He can bring it to its knees, and he did it today. The way he's putting, I can see him going out the next two days and scaring 59 again.

Q. A lot of people only make a big thing about how long he is. How impressive was the putting because allegedly the only putt he missed inside 12 feet today was the one on 18?

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, that's what people don't realize is how good a putter he really is. He's got a system that he works on. I don't really know exactly what it is, but he's a great putter. You have to be a good putter out here. These greens are tricky to read. Even though the greens are soft, you've still got to make putts, and obviously he's been doing that.

Q. How do you feel about this kind of golf where if you don't shoot 65 you lose ground?

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, it hasn't suited me that well. Obviously I did it at Kapalua, but totally different grass out there.

I'm much more of a fan of 9- to 12-under winning golf tournaments, especially playoff events like this, but you can't really do anything about the weather. The heat index is probably over 100. It's just hard to get these greens firm. If you don't have tight fairways, don't have really long rough, you're going to have really low scores.

Q. You've played with him a few weeks ago; did you notice anything different about just kind of how the crowd kind of received him today going low, and was it starkly different than a few weeks ago?

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, yeah, obviously the crowd got bigger and bigger on the back nine. It seemed like everybody was pulling for him. You'd hear the random negative comments, but it was nice to see a bunch of positive energy out there, and he obviously feeds off that.

Q. Was it less negative than it was a few weeks ago?

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, for sure, for sure.

Q. Why do we obsess so much about a 59 on the records, 58?

HARRIS ENGLISH: Yeah, I don't know, it's just that elusive number that has been in our minds, been in golfers' minds forever. Everybody respects it. Everybody knows -- Jordan and I knew exactly what he was facing, especially when he made eagle on 16.

Yeah, I mean, I guess Furyk shot the 58, what was that, six years ago. It's just something for the record books, shooting 59, and everybody wants to do it. I've never done it before. It would have been really cool to see that today.

Q. You've never seen one?

HARRIS ENGLISH: Never seen one.
