THE NORTHERN TRUST

August 21, 2021

Shane Lowry

Jersey City, New Jersey, USA

Liberty National Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. How would you assess the round out there today?

SHANE LOWRY: It was pretty good. I hit it close a lot and holed a few -- I didn't hole that many putts. I was hitting it close most of the day. I'm pretty pleased with it because I needed to go out and shoot a good score today. I knew the scoring was going to be good and I knew I needed to move myself up the leaderboard to make it into next week and make a big push to make it into Atlanta. Very pleased with the way I played.

Q. With how soft conditions were today, did you feel there weren't a lot of flags you couldn't go after?

SHANE LOWRY: Obviously you can short-side yourself a little bit but I was standing there feeling like I I can't really short-side myself too much.

Feel like I'm putting well so I feel like if I leave myself a 10-footer whether for par or birdie I can make that most of the time. Nice place to be, and going out there this morning you know that everybody is going to shoot low or a lot of guying gore to shoot low, and I'm happy I did that.

Obviously you don't want to go out and do anything stupid but I got off to a nice start. I was a couple under through, what, through five holes and it just a nice start on this course. Especially a couple tricky holes like 5 and 9 that you really want to get through.

Just got off to a nice start and keep the foot down from there and take care of the par 5s on the short holes and try and worry about the tougher holes after that.

Q. Interesting situation we have coming up, no play tomorrow, come back on upon day. What's your mentality?

SHANE LOWRY: It's obviously different. All Ireland final is on at half-eleven, or half-ten in the morning, so I get to watch that which I'm pretty happy about. Like I said earlier, I think there's worse cities to be stuck in for a day off than New York, so I'm sure I'll find something to do.
