AIG WOMEN'S OPEN

August 21, 2021

Leona Maguire

Carnoustie, Angus, Scotland, UK

Press Conference

Q. Obviously had an amazing final round at the Evian not too long ago, and Minjee Lee came from seven back to win. When you go into tomorrow's final round, do you take the attitude that anything can happen? How do you view it?

LEONA MAGUIRE: Yeah, today I think anything can happen but this one in particular, those last four holes are really tough coming in there. Yeah, nothing's guaranteed until that last putt drops on 18.

So we've got quite a few bad showers coming in those last four holes today which made it quite tough. I'm not sure what the forecast is like for tomorrow but I think anybody within maybe five of the lead has a really good chance.

Q. What's the worst weather you've ever played in out of curiosity?

LEONA MAGUIRE: Probably the first round at Rich Harvest Farms. Nationals at Rich Harvest Farms; I've never been that cold on a golf course before.

Q. What's been the strengths of your game these three rounds, do you think?

LEONA MAGUIRE: I've drove the ball well. I avoided for the most part a lot of fairway bunkers. Hit it in one today maybe. But for the most part, avoided them as much as I can and just plodded my way around. Felt like I played really nicely. I just didn't hole any putts at all.

Q. And just looking ahead to tomorrow, without jumping ahead, what's the thoughts going into this final round?

LEONA MAGUIRE: I think just trying to play really good golf. Give myself as many chances as possible and try and post a number and then see what happens. Like you said, we don't know what's going to happen on the back nine of this golf course, so I guess I'll be out a bit earlier than the leaders and try and post a number, and, yeah, make them think a little bit coming down those last five holes.

Q. I guess physically and mental-wise, still plenty of gas in the tank?

LEONA MAGUIRE: Yeah, I mean, one more round, give it everything I have tomorrow. It's been a draining week. Definitely this golf course demands every bit of your concentration. You can't switch off for a second. So give it one really last good go tomorrow and then I've got a week off at home. Should be nice.
