AIG WOMEN'S OPEN

August 20, 2021

Georgia Hall

Carnoustie, Angus, Scotland, UK

Press Conference

Q. The wind on the links, is that something you embrace?

GEORGIA HALL: Just windy, yeah, I think it's about time it got windy. It's proper links golf ask that's what people want to see and I think it makes golf much more interesting when there's a lot of wind. So I'm quite excited to play in it. Obviously it makes it a lot harder but I think it will be a true test.

Q. Not the first time you've been in the mix since winning it, only been a few years, but this is the moment you've been waiting for, isn't it?

GEORGIA HALL: Every Open I want to do the best I can. I've got off to a good start after I was defending at Woburn after two rounds. This is a fantastic golf course, one of the best in the world, so yeah, a lot of golf to play yet but I'm happy where I am.

Q. Do you think those windy conditions give you an advantage?

GEORGIA HALL: I'd like to think it can, and especially a lot of the Americans and other players, they don't play in the wind quite as much but at the same time they are extremely good golfers. I've just got to control by ball flight and see how windy it gets but I'm sure it will be quite windy.

Q. By the end you had a massive crowd?

GEORGIA HALL: Yeah, last three or four holes, there's loads of people and it's so nice and it does mean a lot that they are supporting me and Louise who I was playing with and hopefully we'll see more tomorrow because it does keep me going tomorrow.

Q. At Lytham, you spoke to Tom, did you speak to anyone about strategy, Tom Lehman?

GEORGIA HALL: Yeah, even my practise rounds, but seeing that he won there the year I was born, also I'm fairly close to him so it's silly for me not to ask how he played it. But you know, the practise rounds here, you have to plot your way around the golf course like a lot of links golf courses. I think I fairly know how to play. It's just hitting the right shots.

Q. Are you a different player to what you were in 2018?

GEORGIA HALL: I don't think so. A bit more experience and yeah there's a few shots here and there which I might have done back then which I don't do now. Apart from that I'm fairly similar. I handle the pressure better I'd like to say but that's me, I just feel in my head, I'm more stable.

Q. What are the shots you don't play?

GEORGIA HALL: Maybe come up short a little bit more than I did but it's into wind now. That's just from playing more links golf, really.

Q. Do you see any similarities with young Louise?

GEORGIA HALL: Yeah, definitely. I think she's a lot like me, quite quiet, just let's her golf do the talking. She's a very natural golfer. She just goes up and hits it which I think is a lot like me, too. She's an amazing talent and it was really nice to play with her.
