AIG WOMEN'S OPEN

August 20, 2021

Lauren Walsh

Carnoustie, Angus, Scotland, UK

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Lauren, you must be delighted to finish with two birdies at Carnoustie, not many people do that.

LAUREN WALSH: Yeah, I hit two good shots into 17 and 1 and finally got some putts to drop. I played solid yesterday and today and it was kind of just trying to get it together and wasn't best of start yesterday but I was happy with where my game was at. I didn't score very well, and I knew coming into today I could kind of shoot a couple under and try to get myself back up the leaderboard to try and make the cut.

THE MODERATOR: When you saw the conditions, lack of wind, bit of sunshine, did you have hopes of shooting 69 as you did?

LAUREN WALSH: Yeah, as soon as the draw came in I knew I was lucky. I know 6.40 is an early start. It's nice to get out there, on a links golf course, I know the mornings are calm. We had rain warming up but I knew as soon as I got out on to the golf course, it was going to be all right.

THE MODERATOR: And keeps you in hunt for top amateur. Louise made a good start yesterday and you're right up there as well?

LAUREN WALSH: Yeah, Louise played great yesterday and looks like she's doing okay out there again today. It's a lot of fun. After yesterday I was hoping to try and make the cut, and just coming into the week I was looking to gain some experience of like what this atmosphere is like, and yeah, excited to be here.

THE MODERATOR: What's it been like being around top professionals in this type of environment?

LAUREN WALSH: Yeah, it's definitely been an incredible experience. Hopefully this is something that I'll do in the future, and yeah, it's just exciting to be part of it now as an amateur and gain that bit of experience moving forward. Yeah, it's just a really exciting week. I'm just soaking it all in.

THE MODERATOR: How much confidence does it give you into next week at Conway?

LAUREN WALSH: Yeah, heading to the Curtis Cup next week, another tough, difficult golf course, and obviously playing well and two birdies to finish, that's what you're going to have to do to close out a match next week. It's definitely a huge confidence boost and yeah, really excited for that as well.

THE MODERATOR: Confident as a team next week?

LAUREN WALSH: Yeah, we've bonded really well over the last two years as a team and we have a really good group of players. Yeah, we are all looking forward to it.
