Camila Giorgi

Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Press Conference

C. GIORGI/K. Pliskova

6-3, 7-5

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. I just want to know how you felt inside your head when you won. We're used to seeing players react with lots of expression when they win a tournament like this. You were kind of very calm. Can you describe what went through your mind after the final point?

CAMILA GIORGI: I really think I was very emotional inside. Of course, I'm not the one that shows a lot. Of course, it's just amazing. I'm very happy for what I did this week.

Q. Is there a moment this week, match or point or set, where you realized you had a chance to win this tournament?

CAMILA GIORGI: No. I think this comes with all the work I been doing with my father. Of course, he's my coach. So I think all the work we've been putting together through all these years.

I think one day I was sure and he was sure that can come in many period because I was playing very good actually. I was playing very high level already few months ago.

I think I was just believing in myself, of course.

Q. The second set you broke Karolina to go up 3-1. She breaks back immediately. What is going through your mind at that moment? What adjustments did you make?

CAMILA GIORGI: I think this is tennis, that you can go forward. I mean, I was 3-1 actually, but I never thought just can happen. Especially when you're playing good, the level going up, it be down. It's a little bit like this.

Especially the condition was a little bit strange. Was windy, very hot, humid. Was not easy actually for playing. I think was just amazing.

Q. Where do you rank this week and this title amongst all you have accomplished since the beginning of your career?

CAMILA GIORGI: I think it just amazing that it came. But I think I didn't have opportunity in these years. I have many injuries. I think this year I was more able to play, being physically well. I was sure one day could come.

Q. A couple years ago you said during Wimbledon that you don't follow much tennis when you're off the court. Do you think that helps you mentally because it helps you tune off from the sport, when you're on the court it makes you fresher?

CAMILA GIORGI: Actually, no. What I was saying is that when I'm off of the court I like to do other things. For example, my mom have a brand, Giomila, the one I'm wearing all the time, of course. And I love fashion. This is for me it.

When I'm in the court, in the tournament, very focused. I do my physical, everything. When I go home, there is other things in life, too. The beautiful thing that I think to be a woman, that you can wear things, just colors, different kind of dresses. This is I think even life.

Q. Everything was working for you. What or who changed your mindset during this week at this tournament?

CAMILA GIORGI: I think anything change, nothing. I been working all my life with my father. He's always been with me all the time. We are working hours and hours in the court. Of course, the results should come. I believe it and he believe it, too.

I think this week was amazing week. Very happy to have this gift. Actually I dedicate to him because I have this for me because he dedicate many hours with me. Of course, this is when you dedicate all your work, I think one day comes beautiful things, you know?

Q. It must be difficult for you and him not to be together. Talk about that.

CAMILA GIORGI: Yes, no, we talk a hundred times per day even FaceTime or calls. This is no problems. I believe the distance, it's fine.

No, he's always with me. Always, always. Before the match, after the match, before practice, after practice. We was talking about tactical and everything. But it's fine for one week. We work all day together. We travel all the time together. I think just we are like amazing team, amazing. He's amazing.

Q. Is he going to join you for your next tournaments?

CAMILA GIORGI: Yes, I really hope. He's doing many things, too. Actually, yeah, I really wait him, of course.

Q. Have you had a chance to talk to your dad yet after today's match?

CAMILA GIORGI: Yeah, of course. Before, after... He was very happy.

Q. He was very happy?

CAMILA GIORGI: Yeah, of course. We put all the work together all these years. Imagine, like 25 years working together. I think it just amazing.

Yes, as soon as we going to see each other, we going to enjoy, of course.

Q. There was one point in the match where you got frustrated and threw your racquet. How did you regain your composure after that?

CAMILA GIORGI: I think this is very important to let go tension. Is nothing. There is many, many times in the match that you need to do something maybe to put out a little bit the stress. It's a lot of work down there.

Was very hot. Was condition very tough. Very windy. Was the sixth match in a row, every day playing. It's not easy actually. Tennis, it's like this.

THE MODERATOR: Questions in French.

Q. You talked about it in English, but you just won the most important title in your career at 29 years old. You waited a long time. What does it mean to you?

CAMILA GIORGI: It's very important. I believe things are bound to happen. I believed this was going to happen because I was playing very well. It's been a month already. So that's it. It was incredible.

Q. What is now to come? Are you going to Cincinnati?

CAMILA GIORGI: Yes, now it's Cincinnati.
