Ashleigh Buhai

Leven, Fife, Scotland, UK

Dumbarnie Links

Quick Quotes

Q. Certainly the lowest round so far, was that coming? Did you know that was coming this morning?

ASHLEIGH BUHAI: Of course I didn't know it was coming, but yesterday I had four birdies and an eagle. So it was out there. And the thing with the wind -- it's being consistent at least and in a similar direction. Every day I think you learn to play the course a bit more and as long as you stick to the right game plan and hit to the right areas, you can make a birdie every now and then.

Q. Is that a result of getting to know the course better?

ASHLEIGH BUHAI: Definitely, I think so. In the practise rounds, there was no wind and we get to round one and it's like holes where bunkers that were not in playoff tee shots were now in play. I felt like my first round was almost another practise round, and after that I started to find my feet and feel more comfortable.

Q. You've been playing well recently and good results. You must feel comfortable at the top surrounded by great players?

ASHLEIGH BUHAI: Obviously there's a lot of great players up there. I'm happy with where my game and that I'm starting to trend in the right direction again. Just keep doing what I'm doing.

Q. Excited about tomorrow?

ASHLEIGH BUHAI: Yeah, of course. Any time you have a cans to win, it's great. Keep doing what I'm doing. I just love links golf and how creative you can be. I think it suits my game a lot.

Q. How are you finding the new course?

ASHLEIGH BUHAI: I love it. It's hard to believe it's only one year old because it mays like a true links, but you get the bounces, and you get some good and some bad. The difference between this and an older links is I think the bunkers are more forgiving, but other than that, I think it's playing really well.

From the first time I saw it, it's really suited my eye well.

Q. You always seem to play well in the U.K. What makes you feel comfortable here?

ASHLEIGH BUHAI: I don't know, I just think there's similarities maybe, other than the weather, from South Africa. Maybe because I started playing in Europe and it's a comfort zone. I've played so much here over the years. Like I said, links golf you have to be creative. It's not stock, standard golf. You have to see shots. You have to hit them and get up and commit, which is very difficult sometimes.

Q. For some people, it makes them lose confidence, but you thrive in this.

ASHLEIGH BUHAI: I do, and I think it has a lot to do with my coach, Doug Wood back in South Africa. He's taught me so many shots over the years. I think when we get to the States, it's very much one-dimensional and can be; and here, you have to be creative. I think that's the way my mind works and prefers to play.
