TRUST GOLF WOMEN'S SCOTTISH OPEN

August 13, 2021

Ryann O'Toole

Leven, Fife, Scotland, UK

Dumbarnie Links

Quick Quotes

Q. Fantastic first round, are you pleased with where you are so far?

RYANN O'TOOLE: I am pleased. I felt like we got the harder end of the draw, given yesterday I heard it was sunny and warm and we basically had this yesterday. So I am pleased with finishing under par and 5-under, I would take that going into the weekend.

Q. Is it one of the things that plays in your mind, start in the morning, you get the rough end each day does that play in your mind?

RYANN O'TOOLE: You can't do anything about it. I tried yesterday going out expecting wind and rain. It's fun to play. You get to use your imagination a little more and some of the greens and fairways, there's some holes that do help with the downwind, so take advantage of those.

Q. Have you enjoyed that learning process over the years taking on this links golf?

RYANN O'TOOLE: 2012 when I played my first links round, I think it was Royal Liverpool, it was a learning experience. I think throughout years, I've learned, so can, this is how you play, lower-flighted tee shots, get creative, get the ball on the ground quicker, get the spin down. It's a learning process.

Q. You weren't able to come here last year, we're at a brand new course at The Scottish Open, what are your thoughts so far at Dumbarnie Links?

RYANN O'TOOLE: It's a fantastic golf course, beautifully laid out, and fun that it's a new course. To feature is using The Scottish Open to publicise it or make it known, put a stamp on it is great. I'm glad we could be a part of that. It is a very fun track. You know, like my mom said to me like from watching TV coverage, she goes, "It looks like you're playing on the moon with all the mounds lining the fairways." It's pretty cool-looking.

Q. Definitely more wind than we might see on the moon but what's it been like for you coming back to Scotland and being able to enjoy this links experience?

RYANN O'TOOLE: It's funny, when you're in the States, there's so many courses that try to create links-style golf and there's a difference, when you come over here, the bunker layouts, how the ground is, the way that the wind actually whips is so different. You can't replicate it, the weather, the lay of the land and on top of the architecture, it's a perfect trifecta. It really creates that links-style golf. It's what the Scottish is known for. It's what we want in the British. That's what this championship is all about.

Q. With the weather picking up throughout day, you'll be heading into the weekend, in the spot that you are now hopefully higher with the wind coming in this afternoon. How do you feel going into the weekend with this weather like this?

RYANN O'TOOLE: I'm glad I'm in the clubhouse now with what I'm at. Definitely in the thick of it yesterday, windy and cold and today same conditions, we didn't get a break.

Good luck to the girls yesterday morning who played in completely opposite conditions and I'm glad I get to relax now.

Q. Were you pleased to come out with a 4-under yesterday? Did you see that yesterday in that wind?

RYANN O'TOOLE: I'm not going to lie, as a golfer we always think of the one thing we could have changed. I had one bogey on 16, and I left the golf course going, dang bogey. But as the night progressed, I'm like, okay, that was a good round. Things were going right. So when you know when things are going right, you don't realise how hard it really is.
