TRUST GOLF WOMEN'S SCOTTISH OPEN

August 12, 2021

Patty Tavatanakit

Leven, Fife, Scotland, UK

Dumbarnie Links

Quick Quotes

Q. Nice strong start to the tournament. Are you happy with how today went?

PATTY TAVATANAKIT: Yeah, I'm really happy about my round today. And I just didn't expect much going out because it was pretty calm for the first three days, for practice rounds, and including Pro-Ams.

And it actually picked up today. It made a lot of holes become very different. Like you're on the tee, and you're just looking at it so differently. Some are more approachable, some you have to be a little bit more conservative.

So it's just been a really fun day.

Q. How did you like the challenge that obviously the links golf presents, the conditions can be changing so much, especially in your young career?

PATTY TAVATANAKIT: Yeah, I feel like I was really beat up from British Open last year, and just going back, I literally told my coach I want to be able to play these shots.

I'm still not perfect at it. I feel like I scramble around the course better than where my game was last year. And I feel like if you go out there the start of the round not expecting a lot out of it, because like anything could happen, you pick a perfect shot, the wind could take it left-to-right. Or you hit a perfect shot, and a gust comes up and you end being over the green or short of the green. There's a lot varieties going on there.

Just going out with this perspective where, you know, you hit one shot, and you're going to go play the next. It's what I've been doing today.

Q. It's a real test of all your abilities, right?

PATTY TAVATANAKIT: Basically.

Q. Yeah, mental as well.

PATTY TAVATANAKIT: Mm-hmm.

Q. Looking at the scores, the early starters, is that encouraging? Or you think they had good conditions, that means it's going difficult for us in the afternoon?

PATTY TAVATANAKIT: Yeah, I mean, wind is a big factor out here. I feel like if it's calm, like I said, it's a different course. But, I mean, it was windy, and we had like side winds, like left-to-right, right-to-left. Like we had to play that. Can't really just go directly at the flag.

And I feel like that's why the scores were kind of low this morning. And when you chip you don't have to think about it's into the wind, it's downwind. Or even putting too.

Wind is a really big factor out here, and I feel like that's why it separates the morning and the afternoon.

Q. And your playing partners, was that quite a nice group to be a part of?

PATTY TAVATANAKIT: It was nice. Everyone was really nice. We were chitchatting a lot today. It made the whole day kind of light for me.

Q. How do you approach tomorrow?

PATTY TAVATANAKIT: Same, not trying to replicate what I did today, just because it's a different day, it's going to be in the morning, might be a little softer. Just a whole bunch of stuff that you don't know what you're going to get. So just going out there without any expectations would be my number one priority.

Q. Thank you.
