Davis Chatfield

Oakmont, Pennsylvania, USA

Oakmont Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. So you had that nice run where you won four holes in a row. Tell me a couple key shots in that run.

DAVIS CHATFIELD: Yeah, I mean, I played smart. You're going to make mistakes out here, and I just tried to keep it in play, get it on the green.

I didn't do anything special. I think I birdied the 10th hole but made pars on 7, 8, 9. A lot of times par will get it done out here. It's just so tough.

Yeah, you don't have to do anything crazy.

Q. It then he came back at you and won 13 and 14. What's in your mind at that point as he creeps back in?

DAVIS CHATFIELD: Yeah, and then on 15, that was when the delay happened. I hit my drive in the bunker, had to chip out, and he hit it in the fairway.

So the horn was sounding there and it wasn't a great place to leave off obviously, but we both ended up making 5 on that hole. I made like a 15-footer for bogey when we came back out, which was huge for me.

Tied 16, and then I was able to hit it close on the last hole there and get it done.

Q. How long was that putt on 17?

DAVIS CHATFIELD: On 17 it was probably eight feet, yeah.

Q. Obviously your teammate went pretty far in this a couple years ago.

DAVIS CHATFIELD: Uh-huh.

Q. Have you guys talked about what it's like here? You've been in this before, but what it's like playing in match play as you go forward?

DAVIS CHATFIELD: Yeah, we have a bunch. We played in the Four-Ball at the end of May and made it to the semifinals; last year I made it to the round of 16 at Bandon trying to follow in Palmer's footsteps.

Yeah, we have a lot experience and we obviously build off each other. Just glad to be here and glad for the opportunity.

Q. When you go that far in the things that you've done, what do you learn from that that's going to help you this afternoon?

DAVIS CHATFIELD: Just knowing you're always in it. If you're still out there you have a chance to win. That's the beauty of match play. I've done it a bunch of times before, so I feel like I can do it again.
