TRUST GOLF WOMEN'S SCOTTISH OPEN

August 12, 2021

Lydia Ko

Leven, Fife, Scotland, UK

Dumbarnie Links

Quick Quotes

Q. Good steady round. How are you feeling? I know you were very tired arriving.

LYDIA KO: I actually hit the ball really good. My ball-striking was really good. I think I had like 35 or 34 putts. So I didn't really make anything that I could have. So it was kind of a very stress-free 2-under and feel like I could have shot a lot lower considering it was so calm for the majority of our round.

Hopefully be able to keep the same good feels for the long game and I can hole a few more over the next few days.

Q. How tough is it coming from Japan to here?

LYDIA KO: I thought I was adjusting to the time zone but I woke up -- I'm not the only one that came from Tokyo but that's part of traveling, so just have to adjust to it. I think it's also important to get enough rest and lots of food to energise.

Q. How is the course, getting used to links again?

LYDIA KO: Yeah, I love playing links golf. You have to hit some different type of shots, very creative. It's fun and I think this course is a really good lead-up to Carnoustie. I haven't played there before but this is like a true links. I've had a lot experience, I think it's like my ninth or 10th British Open this year, but I've only had a couple really good finishes. So hopefully some better finishes for me this time around in Scotland.

Q. With that in mind, is there anything that you're doing differently this year?

LYDIA KO: No, I don't think so. I think Carnoustie is one of the most excited I've been golf-course-wise. I think my first one was in 2012 at St Andrews and the last time in Carnoustie was in 2011, so I just missed that one. So being that kind of case, I was always pumped when they announced it was there next year, which is obviously this year. I was really excited, and it's great when you get to play a golf course like this because you can kind of get into the feel of links golf because it is very different to me playing a golf course like Tokyo.

Q. Of Carnoustie, what have you seen?

LYDIA KO: I think it's there's history there. I think for the guys, they played two or three years ago, and it's one -- I hear it's one of the best links golf courses. Every links is different. Like Troon is different to Carnoustie and different to St. George's where the guys played. I think this one has a lot of character, and I've only heard great things about it. So when you hear so many nice things it makes you excited to play the golf course and hopefully I'm up for the challenge.

Q. How have you found the new course here?

LYDIA KO: It's actually very mature considering it's only been open 18 months or so. Yeah, you would think it's been around for a long time. I think the golf course is great. It's a very unique setup and I think especially when the wind is quite low, I think it can be gettable. So just have to play smart but I know it's going to be pretty windy tomorrow. So play smart and see what happens.
