Jensen Castle

Rye, New York, USA

Westchester Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Up and down emotions in that match. Just talk us through the day.

JENSEN CASTLE: It crazy. I was down almost the whole day. We only got tied on the on one hole and it was literally for one hole.

But, I mean, being I thought for sure she won. I couldn't believe she missed it on 18. When I knew she gave me that opportunity I was like, All right, I birdied this earlier, I'm going to I birdie this again, and I went after it. Knew the same wind direction and everything.

Q. How far did you hit the drive and how far was the chip and then how far was the putt?

JENSEN CASTLE: Actually this is the one time I didn't shoot the chip. It was probably about 32, but it was all green. You had so much green to work with. I don't know what the drive was, but it was kind of into, left to right.

Q. What does it mean to bulldog your way through that match and then have that door open?

JENSEN CASTLE: I mean, gosh, it was such a blur. Like I don't remember, you know what I mean? It was great. I had so much fun with Rachel, and I knew whenever I saw the pairings yesterday I'm like, no matter what, whoever wins the match is going to be good and we're going to fun no matter what, and that's what we did.

We had so much fun. We laughed and that's how golf should be. Especially girls' golf.

Q. Is it different for you to have that much fun with your competitor? Usually I feel like match play is a lot more serious than you two showed out on the golf course.

JENSEN CASTLE: I think it depends who you get. Because you're out here, you meet new people, you got to enjoy it. If this is going to be your job one day you want this to be fun.

Most of the matches I've played this week was like that. Got to have fun.

Q. You're zeroed in. How much does that help when you go from a moment when you don't expect to be walking over to the 10th tee to collecting yourself and... (wind interference).

JENSEN CASTLE: I find one of the strengths in match play you is always expect the best, so the whole day I expected the best from her. Every birdie putt she had I'm like, she's going to make this so I need to make this.

So when that happens and she doesn't make it, then you're like, Okay, I won it because I already made it or you're just shocked. Just gives you another opportunity. It's a good way to look at it in match play.

Q. Coming in as the 63th seed; now you're in the finals. I know it's hard to put in words. Talk us through the emotions.

JENSEN CASTLE: I keep forgetting I'm the 63rd seed. I feel like seeds are irrelevant once you get into match play. It's everyone's game. It's been so much fun. I'm just glad that the doctor said I could play.

Q. With this you're now into the Women's Open next year.

JENSEN CASTLE: No way!

Q. Pine Needles 2022 Women's Open. Have you played in one before?

JENSEN CASTLE: I played in Olympic.

Q. Okay, you just played Olympic. So how will you kind of take that experience into next year's Women's Open?

JENSEN CASTLE: I mean, stay in the fairway. I'm actually excited because next year it's in North Carolina, so that's close to my home and a lot of people can come watch, this past year it was in California. I feel like I play better when it's more close and convenient, when I have my own car type thing. It's just another tournament.

Q. And not having to go through a 36-hole qualifier is probably pretty nice, too.

JENSEN CASTLE: Yeah, that wore me out this past year. I played one of the hardest courses.

Q. Are you on an air mattress still?

JENSEN CASTLE: Last night I got a twin size. I slept good.

Q. Looking ahead to tomorrow what's the prep tonight going to look like?

JENSEN CASTLE: I'm going to get some food. I'm hungry. It's another match. Fairways, greens. I don't know how she played. I don't care. It's my own game. It's match play. It's anyone's game. You get lucky and it is what it is. Whatever has happened it's meant to be.
