Galgorm Castle & Massereene Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. 7-under par, you matched the low round of the week at the Galgorm course. How did it feel to put that together?

PERNILLA LINDBERG: I've been fighting for this for a long time now, really the whole season. I feel like overall I haven't really seen a putt go in all year, and it's really been getting on my nerves. Yesterday kind of just started off the same way, and then towards the end of my round yesterday, on the seventh hole, it was my back nine, I holed a wedge. I spun my wedge into the hole for an eagle, and it felt like that kind of took the lid off. After that came out today and started with five birdies on my front nine, really taking advantage of some of the shorter par-5s, and finally seeing those putts go in, it kind of made me like kind of relax out there, and it took some pressure off from the rest of the game.

Yeah, when you're not putting and making putts, it just suddenly trickles back into the fairway, you feel like you have to hit it so close. Yeah, so that was really the big change today. The putts started to drop, and that just freed me up out there.

Q. So the chip-in was on No. 7 yesterday? You had started on the back nine?

PERNILLA LINDBERG: Yeah, started on the back, so that was my 16th hole of the day, I holed the wedge from 60 yards.

Q. On No. 7, though?

PERNILLA LINDBERG: Yeah, exactly.

Q. A good start today, you had birdies at 1, 3, 4, 7 and 9, bogey-free front nine. Can you take me through the hot start and maybe one or two that stood out?

PERNILLA LINDBERG: Yeah. No. 1 is really -- it is a birdie -- should be a birdie hole, but it's always first hole of the day. You want to start with a birdie. But I hit a good drive, I had a 5-iron in that I hit to probably about 12, 15 feet, so I had that look for eagle and just missed it, but still a nice start with a birdie.

Reached No. 3, as well, with an iron, so took advantage of those two short par-5s, and then hit some wedges close -- on 4 I hit a wedge close, and then really on 6 I was in a bit of trouble. It's probably the toughest par-4 out here, and I hit my drive into the trees, had to chip out sideways, had a 4-iron into the green and ended up holing a 30-footer for par, so that really kept the momentum going on the front nine, and then followed up with a nice birdie on the 7th, the par-3, and then pitched it in close on 9 for another birdie.

You know, just taking advantage of those par-5s and then keeping the momentum the one time I was in trouble.

Q. You had your lone bogey at No. 10 and then followed up with a birdie immediately after on 11 and then 13 and 14 to close out the 7-under day. Overall you bounced back immediately from a bogey and you kept your head down to keep charging it seemed like out there.

PERNILLA LINDBERG: Yeah, exactly. I've been hitting my driver so nice for a long time now, but I have had a few loose ones every now and then, and that's what happened on 10 again.

You know, I didn't beat myself up too much because overall I've been hitting the driver so good, and then it was really nice to kind of bounce back with birdies there.

The holes where I didn't make birdies on the back nine, I was still giving myself chances. I hit a lot of greens. Yeah, it's just a nice feeling to see some putts go in the hole again.

Q. A little windy today?

PERNILLA LINDBERG: Absolutely more windy today than yesterday, and it feels like it was picking up throughout the day. It never really warmed up out there, either. For sure obviously yesterday I played in the afternoon, which was more pleasant than the morning, but yeah, we had for sure nicer conditions yesterday afternoon, but today it kind of looks like the morning and afternoon will probably be pretty similar.

Q. 6-under overall, seven back of the lead right now, two more days on this course. How nice was it to have that kind of rotation where you played Massereene yesterday, got that out of the way and you can play three straight here?

PERNILLA LINDBERG: Yeah, it's nice, and obviously I had my better round here, so I'm happy to continue on this course. But yeah, it's kind of a funny feeling playing at Massereene yesterday, it's a course that it's brand new for me this week, and you learn things every time you play, but at the same time even though I learned stuff yesterday, it was like, okay, I'm not playing it again this week, so it doesn't really matter.

I like this course better, and it's for sure very scorable but with some short par-5s, so going to have to just kind of keep putting together similar scores, I think, to catch up with everyone this weekend.

Q. Is that possible on this course, to shoot -- it seems like you can find a lot of birdies out there, and there might be a couple people ahead of you who just get two or three.

PERNILLA LINDBERG: Absolutely. Obviously it's always hard to follow up a low round with another for some reason, but no, it's for sure doable. We have short par-5s and a lot of wedges, so you should absolutely be able to give yourself lots of chances.
