ISPS HANDA WORLD INVITATIONAL

July 29, 2021

David Drysdale

Northern Ireland

Galgorm Castle & Massereene Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Can you talk me through the round? It's a great start.

DAVID DRYSDALE: Yeah, it was pretty solid really overall. Hit a lot of fairways, a lot of greens. Knocked a couple of putts in. Yeah, never really put myself in any bother. Yeah, just the one bogey on No. 3. Hit the second shot in the left trap and didn't get up-and-down. But other than that it was quite a stress-free round of golf.

Q. It's been a bit different, the course has been a bit different to the practice rounds. I think the same on Massereene --

DAVID DRYSDALE: I didn't really get a practice round around here, and then we played in the pro-am yesterday at the other golf course, and it chucked it down and we stopped after 9 for an hour and a half I guess it was. The guys were saying that Monday and Tuesday it was very firm and bouncy. Having said that, it's not as fiery as it was, but it played a lot different to what we played in October.

Club-wise holes like No. 6 I remember hitting hybrid in there in October and I was hitting like 6-irons in there today, so quite a bit different length-wise. Last October was the first time I played it and I kind of thought coming back, having not had the chance to get a practice round thinking it was quite long, this golf course, but obviously that was just the time of the year and the soft and cold and wet conditions then.

But yeah, the course is in great nick, and that's a nice start.

Q. You finished with two birdies; is that right?

DAVID DRYSDALE: Birdies at 7 and 9.

Q. Any pick of the birdies or any that were particularly important or even pars for that matter?

DAVID DRYSDALE: Just like I say, it was just really solid. Yeah, just didn't put myself in any trouble. Set up a few chances. Could have been a bit lower but then holed a couple of nice sort of 20-foot putts, as well. All in all, probably got what I deserved for the way I played.

Q. How many holes did you play at Massereene yesterday?

DAVID DRYSDALE: Actually I played 18, but we got through 9 -- we teed off 10 and it was chucking it down at the time, and then we had like probably an hour to hour and a half off, grabbed a bit of lunch and then got the back nine, which was actually quite dry for the back nine, so it was all right.

Q. What's the game plan for tomorrow? It looks like it's not quite as low scoring as Galgorm actually even though a lot of people seemed to expect --

DAVID DRYSDALE: Really? Yeah, it's an awful lot shorter than this place. A couple strong holes, like 17 and 18 were no pushover yesterday. Yeah, I mean, I hit quite a lot of irons off the tees yesterday around there, a lot of wedges, so I guess a lot of spin control is going to be important. But you would have expected the low scoring to be over there.

Yeah, we'll see what happens tomorrow, but yeah, again, with the softer conditions it's definitely playing a bit longer than normal, I guess.

Q. It's a different -- obviously you go back over there and back over here on Saturday and Sunday. Do you have any kind of target set? Obviously it's different courses so it's hard to set a true target --

DAVID DRYSDALE: I've got no idea. Just try and hit good shot after good shot, do what I've done today. This game is like one day you think you've got it cracked, the next day it gives you a good kick in the bollocks. You never know where you're at in this game. As much as you can sit here and say Massereene is an easier golf course you would expect, the game doesn't sort of always turn out that way.
