U.S. GIRLS' JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

July 14, 2021

Alexa Pano

Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA

Columbia Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Talk us through your round a little bit.

ALEXA PANO: I definitely struggled the first bunch of holes, and Sophie was really playing well in the beginning. She made a birdie quickly and stuck it close on some other holes, so I was definitely fighting back.

Found some motivation in the middle of the round and decided that I wasn't going to lose the match and didn't really lose any holes until hole 16, which was kind of weird. But other than that, I felt like I played really solid after the first few holes.

Q. How much does your match play experience come in handy when you do find yourself down early?

ALEXA PANO: I think a lot, especially today. Just like I had the official scorer compliment me on how I came back because I just think I knew what to look for in those situations, knew where to dig from.

And yeah, I felt really confident once I won a couple holes and didn't think there was any doubt in my mind I'd get it back.

Q. How does the course fit your game? How are you liking this golf course?

ALEXA PANO: Yeah, I think when I'm playing well it suits my game really well. It's a difficult course, so it's not like a massive birdie-fest every hole and you can't spray the ball everywhere, or you have to know especially where to hit it on the greens and stuff.

The more I play it, I think the more I'm learning it, and I've really enjoyed it thus far.
