THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 30, 2021

Iga Swiatek

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

I. SWIATEK/V. Zvonareva

6-1, 6-3

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. That was a really dominant display out there. You and grass seem to be getting along just fine. Would you say now that you feel confident on this surface?

IGA SWIATEK: Yeah. You know, every match gives me opportunity to have more and more confidence. So I'm pretty happy with my performance today.

Playing such an experienced player is never easy, so I didn't know what to expect at the beginning, because, you know, she has, like, many years of playing on grass and I have only two, basically.

So, yeah, I wanted to be aggressive from the beginning and just play really powerful. And I did that, so I'm pretty happy.

Q. I will ask you something outside your match. Last week I heard (indiscernible) podcast, that's really good, I really like it. She spoke about the relationship between media and players around mental health. She said that a couple of weeks ago she spoke with some media and said that there was some things that could be done better. I would like to know which things do you think that we journalists could do better in order to care about players' mental health?

IGA SWIATEK: You know, that's a hard question, because actually I have never been asked, like, some too personal questions, or I have never had any, like, mental problems. So I have never been in a situation that many players have been, so I can't speak from my experience, you know.

It's hard to give you any, I don't know, tips for that, because, yeah, I have never been in a situation like that. But I think it's just important to treat each other with mutual respect and just, you know, remember that even though we are performing every day basically and we are under a lot of pressure, we are like still human, so, you know, it's good to have some empathy.

Right now there is a lot going on, and everybody, you know, is talking about mental health. Yeah, I think it's just important sometimes to give the players the space that they need, you know, but it depends on the person actually. I have never had a problem like that, so from my perspective, I really like the relationship I have with media and, you know, with you guys, so, yeah, for me it's like pretty easygoing. But I know that other players have different situation. It's just important to respect that.
