THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 30, 2021

Oscar Otte

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

A. MURRAY/O. Otte

6-3, 4-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Condolences on the result. I just wondered what your take on the whole evening was, really.

OSCAR OTTE: Well, right now actually don't know what to say. It was really good match. It was tough fight. In the end of course better for Andy.

Yeah, I enjoyed every minute on the court. I left everything on the court. Actually cannot complain. Of course the result could have been better, but it wasn't like that. So, I mean, it's okay for me, but of course I would have preferred to win, of course, yeah.

Q. What about the atmosphere?

OSCAR OTTE: Atmosphere was crazy. Yeah, just unreal. I enjoyed it, although they were all cheering for Andy, but, yeah, I tried to take as much, as good energy as possible also from the spectators. It was unreal to play on Centre Court.

Q. You looked like you had quite a lengthy chat at the net with Andy afterwards. Wonder if you could let us know what he said to you and what if anything you said to him?

OSCAR OTTE: Yeah, he actually said if I keep on playing like this, yeah -- I actually can't remember word for word what he said, to be honest. He said keep on working like this, keep on playing like this. Then the results will come.

I said thanks, and was great to play him. I told him he's my icon. For me, he's the best ever. Yeah, I just enjoyed to play against him.

Q. You have obviously now played on Centre Court against Andy Murray. I know you played the French Open against Roger Federer. Are these the kind of moments that give you inspiration to keep going and keep working to move on with your career, if you like?

OSCAR OTTE: Yeah, of course. That's why I started playing tennis. I mean, so many years ago Andy and Roger were already playing. I was just watching them in the TV. Now I was able to play against these guys on the big stage.

That's what you're working for every day at home and on the tournaments, with your team, with your family and everything. Just getting so much positive energy for the future, and it's just huge motivation.

Q. Well played. I was wondering, did you feel that if you hadn't stopped for the roof closure, do you think you could have won that match?

OSCAR OTTE: I actually that's what I thought about now after the match the most, because I was really struggling with my serve when the roof was on top, also with the light. I know it's for both players, but I couldn't find my serve rhythm anymore and I was serving worse.

Who knows what could have happened? But, yeah, I think the break was, yeah, was maybe better for Andy and not for me, yeah, with the roof.
