THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

July 1, 2021

Kei Nishikori

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

J. THOMPSON/K. Nishikori

7-5, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Do you feel like you just gave him too big a start today?

KEI NISHIKORI: Obviously I didn't play my best. My return was very bad today. I think that was the biggest key for today. I think I didn't do well, and my rhythm was bad.

He start playing better. Obviously he was playing good, serving well. Yeah, having tough time with the return game today.

Q. Obviously you have a massive thing coming up with the Olympics. It's going to be very exciting for you and for the whole of Japan. I just wondered whether you thought about the possibility you might be able to carry the flag for Japan at the Olympics? Or maybe Naomi. What that might be like if that was the case.

KEI NISHIKORI: I don't know. No idea. Well, obviously I'm not doing my best, you know, right now, like couple years ago. So I can only regroup well before Olympics, and, yeah, I just try to play my best.

Q. What will you do now for the next couple of weeks to get yourself ready? What are your plans for before the Olympics?

KEI NISHIKORI: I go home and train.
