THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

July 5, 2021

Alexander Zverev

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

F. AUGER-ALIASSIME/A. Zverev

6-4, 7-6, 3-6, 3-6, 6-4

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. How would you describe the way your opponent won this match, and what your thoughts are on the state of his game as he tries to go forward?

ALEXANDER ZVEREV: Yeah, I mean, he plays well on the grass court. But obviously I've got to look at myself a little bit, as well.

I did give him a lot of presents, I would say that, in quite important moments. Credit to him, he used his chances. He's in the quarterfinals now. Yeah. His tournament goes on.

Q. What do you think you'll take away from the wins and also this defeat as you move forward?

ALEXANDER ZVEREV: Yeah, I mean, look, to be honest, it does not hurt that much because I didn't play anywhere near the level that I'm supposed to play at a Grand Slam, so, yeah. I mean, look, from now on the matches would have gotten even tougher, and I don't think I was playing good enough tennis to go all the way. I think I was saying that always -- I mean, I'm at a stage where I want to win Grand Slams, so I needed to play much, much better to do that here.

Yeah, I mean, I lost in the fourth round, which for me, in my opinion, is quite early, but at the end of the day I needed to play better.
