THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

July 7, 2021

Marton Fucsovics

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

N. DJOKOVIC/M. Fucsovics

6-3, 6-4, 6-4

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. The first few games must have been a bit traumatic. Can you talk us through what happened at the very beginning and how you actually came into playing your own tennis towards the end of the first set.

MARTON FUCSOVICS: For me it was a new experience to finally play on the Centre Court. Novak played all his matches. He started very well. He played well during the whole match.

I had to find the rhythm. I had to find my serve. It was a bit windy during the match. I had to get used to it.

Q. Novak said it was maybe the windiest conditions he's ever played on Centre Court. As you mentioned, he's been there quite a lot. Did that make things even more difficult when you were trying to get adjusted to the court?

MARTON FUCSOVICS: Yeah, I agree with him. On the previous matches it was perfect conditions, but today it was really windy. It was tricky.

Q. What makes things difficult playing in those conditions?

MARTON FUCSOVICS: From one side it was pushing from the back and the balls didn't come to me, so I had to go to the ball and try to play with more spin. If not, the ball was flying away.

From the other side, I felt that Novak put a lot of pressure on me. He put a lot of balls on the court. He didn't want to hit a big winner, just to make me miss.

Q. Going back to that point in the first set when you sort of found your game when you were down 5-Love, what do you think changed there?

MARTON FUCSOVICS: I was just focusing on the next point, try to win as many points as possible. For me every point count the same, so I didn't give up.

I knew that Novak will give some easy, easy points. Because he started really well, he didn't hit easy mistakes. So I just wanted to stay focused, try to win as many points as possible.
