NASCAR: QUAKER STATE 400 PRESENTED BY WALMART

July 11, 2021

Martin Truex

Hampton, Georgia, USA

Pit Road Interview

An Interview with:

Q. Martin, you had the left front damage, had to come from the back to the front, and then a bad pit stop. I think you win the award for passing the most cars today.

MARTIN TRUEX JR.: I would say that's a fact. It's funny, you look at racing, you look at the results, it's like, Oh, started fifth, finished third. That's a pretty good day.

Gosh, we went through a lot today. Really proud of everybody on our Auto Owners Toyota Camry, and excited to have them on board again and have a good run for them.

Definitely had the speed to battle for the win at the end, just had to come from too far back. Proud of everybody at TRD, Toyota, everybody at the shop that is working hard really hard right now so get our stuff better.

Just had the feel I was looking for today. We were good on the short runs, good on the long runs just in general. Felt good. We've been struggling a bit here lately, so glad to be back running up front at a big track.

Q. Everyone expected Hendrick to be so strong today and they really weren't. It was you and Kyle that really had a lot of the speed there at the end, and Kurt as well.

MARTIN TRUEX JR.: These days we're all so close, and Atlanta is such a handling track. If you hit it just right you're going to be really, really strong. It's so hard. It's like every week there's a couple different guys that run good, and then they disappear for a week or two.

It's crazy this season how it's been. These cars are very sensitive, it's hard to hit it right, and that's what it takes. Whoever can do that most consistently is going to be the guy to beat. But Hendrick cars, don't count them out, that's for sure.
