THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 27, 2021

Petra Kvitova

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. What was your reaction when you saw your first-round draw?

PETRA KVITOVA: Actually no reaction. I think I was so exhausted after my two matches on Friday, when I founded out after my press conference after the matches, I was like, okay, it's not easy, but that's how it is.

I mean, it's tough to choose opponent definitely. I mean, I'm in my favorite place, so what I just wish for, I'm here after two years. I'm really happy that my health and everything is still good. That's really important.

Q. You mentioned this is your favorite place. After two years, what is it like to be back here and what do you think the return of Wimbledon means to the tennis world?

PETRA KVITOVA: Well, we just came last night, so this is my first time on-site. It just felt unbelievable. Unfortunately the weather is not the best, but that's how we're used to, right? It's not raining, so that's very good (smiling).

It's definitely nice to just be walking in the Millennium Building so far. We're looking to hit here on the grass here again. Yeah, it just felt different definitely after two years.

For the tennis world, it means a lot to be back in Wimby. This is, of course, the historical tournament of our sport. Being back in this magical place, I think it's very important for everybody.

Q. How is your ankle? Completely recovered now? How do you feel about your grass court preparation?

PETRA KVITOVA: Yeah, I feel my ankle, it's stable right now. After those matches which I played, was a little bit swollen, a little bit painful when I touch it. Overall when I played with the tape and everything, it was okay. It's just get used to the tape as well, because I don't like tapes much. It's been really difficult for me in the beginning.

Overall I felt every match I played better in Bad Homburg. That's really important for me to know that, that I can move a little bit with the ankle as well. Definitely was a good preparation. Good having few matches. I'm happy to be back here.

Q. You won in 2011 and 2014. Do you think grass is the surface that suits you well and helps your game to bring out the best?

PETRA KVITOVA: Yeah, I already won it twice, it means that I love grass, yes. I think my game is suiting the grass as well, playing lefty, playing aggressively. I love to move on it, as well. I feel like at home. I feel like on the carpet. I just enjoying the movement, as well.

Yeah, I think that always the grass bringing my best tennis to play.

Q. I wanted to ask about the ankle. Could you explain exactly what happened in Paris, how you hurt yourself. Also, was it your left or right ankle?

PETRA KVITOVA: Well, if you watch some of my matches, you know it's left. Yeah, it was just accident. I will not really talk about it that much. Yeah, it was accident. I was pretty disappointed afterwards.
