JOHN DEERE CLASSIC

July 9, 2021

John Senden

Silvis, Illinois, USA

TPC Deere Run

Quick Quotes

Q. You've found some John Deere Classic love again this week, haven't you.

JOHN SENDEN: Yeah, I've been trending a little bit the last little while. My golf at the beginning of the year to now has been sort of average, to say the best, really. And then the last month or so I've been starting to really sort of stripe it again and feel good about myself and play well. After being out and playing half a dozen senior events leading up to here, I've been starting to sort of swing well. Bridgestone and Steve Stricker's event in Wisconsin and this week I've been feeling good with some good feelings being back here. Yesterday I played actually reasonably well, but I shot a terrible score, and then today I put it all together, which was good.

Q. What was the difference between yesterday's round and today's?

JOHN SENDEN: Oh, definitely I holed loads of putts today. I started off, I got off to a rough start yesterday, and then I started 3-under through four on the front nine today, so really sort of found my way, especially the putts inside sort of six, eight feet. I holed them all today.

When you get off to a good start here, you sort of believe you can go pretty low, and you have to go low at this event. The scoring is good, and I've got to put in another couple low ones to get in a reasonable spot for the end of the week, too.

Q. Did you feel any pressure coming into today's round?

JOHN SENDEN: Yeah, I did. I did. I sort of turned up here -- believe it or not, I turned up here feeling a little bit flat because I'm 3-over par, I'm thinking, oh, God. My goal was to get back in the red and shoot a good day and feel good about myself. I wasn't really sort of thinking about contending at all, and then when I got off to a good start I sort of felt -- started feeling, this is good. I've got a lot of golf left. I can play well and have good chance of making it because I've got a quick start, and then I just had to work hard to stay out of my own way really. When you hit shots like that, you get rewarded, and today I did.

Q. You mentioned the word "contend." Do you feel like you're in a position to contend this weekend now?

JOHN SENDEN: Yeah, if I keep doing what I'm doing right now and keep continuing my belief on the greens, there's no reason I can't go out there and shoot two good rounds in the 60s and be in there because I really believe this tournament -- for some reason, the first three rounds go out really fast, and then they just hang about the last round. You see the leaders sometimes go and shoot a real low one, and they get to sort of 16, 17, 18 after three rounds or more, and then it just seems to hang on that number, I think.

If you're sitting at say -- if I can get it to double figures tomorrow, then you've got to put a low one in, and then from back, put a low one in and see if you can get it there.

I believe I need a couple rounds of 65 to be any chance because that's 12-under, that's 17-under, that's probably still not going to be good enough.

Q. But you've got the 65s in you?

JOHN SENDEN: If I shoot 65s I'll be a happy man. That's the goal.
