VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA LPGA TEXAS CLASSIC

July 1, 2021

Lizette Salas

The Colony, Texas, USA

Old American Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Today maybe not the best, but a great finish. Way to grind it out. How fatigued are you right now?

LIZETTE SALAS: I'm up there. But yeah, I didn't play as well as I wanted to, but I finished strong. I think that that says a lot of what I'm capable of and how I can still fight to the end.

Yeah, I'm a little fatigue and maybe a little mentally drained, but I still know I can play some good golf.

Q. You want to win tournaments, win majors, you had a great chance last week and performed so admirably well. Always the underlying goal every two years, it's so important to you personally. Why is the Solheim Cup such a big deal in your career and life?

LIZETTE SALAS: Yeah, it's just an honor to be a part of that event. It's so historic and for me, as a daughter of immigrants, that's kind of like the certification that all of my hard work and sacrifice, as with my parents, that it's been worth it.

I get emotional when the National Anthem comes on and the fact that you have to work hard for two years to qualify, it means a lot to me. Yeah, I would love to win majors and win tournaments, but that Solheim Cup is dear to my heart.

Q. When the occasion warrants it, you seem to be the type of person that has that internal belief and you step up to the plate. You want to the ball for the last shot. Is that something that you think if you didn't happen to qualify through world rankings or points benefits you in favor of perhaps being a captain's pick?

LIZETTE SALAS: Well, I haven't thought about it in that aspect, but I would hope that the captain and assistant captains know what I'm capable of and what I could bring to the American side.

I'm going to do all in my power to not be a captain's pick. I haven't been in my career. But if it comes down to that, it comes down to that. And you know what? At the end of the day Pat Hurst just wants to win that Cup back. If I'm not playing the best that I can, I know for a fact that another person will step in and do what they need to do to bring it back.
