June 29, 2021

Jeongeun Lee6

Old American Golf Club

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Good afternoon, and welcome to the media center of the 2021 Volunteers of America Classic. This afternoon we're joined by Rolex Rankings No. 25 Jeongeun Lee6. Thanks for stopping by. You recently moved to the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area. What made you want to create your United States base in Irving?

JEONGEUN LEE6: Well, first, there are direct flights to Korea, and it's a good spot to fly to different places in the States, too. Also there are a lot of other Korean players, and they also have Korea Town.

Q. When did you move here, and is it starting to feel like home yet?

JEONGEUN LEE6: I moved in January of this year. It hasn't been that long, so I still feel like I'm settling in. Also I've been playing so many tournaments, so I'm hardly here.

Q. So far on the 2021 season, you have made 11 cuts in 12 starts with a season-best finish of seventh at the LA Open. Where do you think that your game is at?

JEONGEUN LEE6: It's too bad that I only made top 10 once. I'm adjusting my swing currently. I'm not 100 percent comfortable with my swing yet, but it's getting there.

Q. Do you feel that you are on the cusp of achieving some top-10 finishes or even some top-5 finishes?

JEONGEUN LEE6: My swing is definitely getting better. As long as I stay focused on my game, I think I can get a top 5.

Q. We're at about the halfway point of the season. What are some goals that you have for the second half of the year?

JEONGEUN LEE6: My goal is to win one of the remaining tournaments. I'd also like to buy a house.

Q. So you're in just an apartment here in Irving right now?

JEONGEUN LEE6: Just a house.

Q. You have a house right now?

JEONGEUN LEE6: Just a rental.

Q. After playing the Volunteers of America Classic just in December of 2020, the LPGA Tour returns for a summer look at Old American Golf Club. How is the course different from last winter?

JEONGEUN LEE6: I remember it was so cold last year, so I had a hard time.

I think I used longer clubs for my shots. Now that it's summer, I'll use shorter clubs.

Q. Last week when Nelly won at KPMG, she moved to No. 1 in the world. Do you think it's good for the Tour overall to have different people at the top and to have more volatility at the top as far as the No. 1 ranked player? Is it good for the game?

JEONGEUN LEE6: I'm not sure. Yeah, Nelly is a very good player. I respect her.

Q. Is that a goal that you have one day, to reach No. 1?

JEONGEUN LEE6: Yes, of course.

Q. You mentioned that you're working on your backswing and that your club face is still closed. Is that still what you're working on in particular in your swing right now, and how is that process going to fix it?

JEONGEUN LEE6: Right now my backswing is a little high, so I missed a lot of shots left, so I'm fixing my backswing a little bit low backswing, so yeah, that's it.

Q. The Aon Risk-Reward challenge hole this week is No. 17. From when you have played it before and during your practice rounds this week, what is your game plan on the par-5 to score some birdies or even an eagle?

JEONGEUN LEE6: Yeah, the green is small and a little bit tricky, so that makes it hard to reach the green in two.

So depending on how I feel that day, I may lay up or go for an eagle.

Q. What makes the hole challenging?

JEONGEUN LEE6: Maybe the last three holes, yeah.

Q. The last three holes are challenging?

JEONGEUN LEE6: Yeah.

Q. What makes them challenging?

JEONGEUN LEE6: Maybe 16, 17 I think a little bit tricky, and then every golf course in tournaments, the last three holes is very important.

Q. Winning the U.S. Women's Open and becoming a major champion was a new experience for you at the time. A new experience for you recently is moving to a foreign country. Were the two, as different as they are, were they similar experiences in any regard?

JEONGEUN LEE6: I think they are similar experience, so that experience is a very good experience for me, yeah.

Q. Kind of enjoyable?

JEONGEUN LEE6: Yeah.
