2021 COLLEGE WORLD SERIES

June 26, 2021

Landon Sims

Omaha, Nebraska, USA

Mississippi State Bulldogs

Postgame Press Conference

Mississippi State - 4, Texas - 3

Q. You guys have obviously been a great late-inning team and you're a big part of that, but when you look at the offensive side of this, how much confidence do you have that your guys can always come-from-behind and win a ballgame for you?

LANDON SIMS: I have all the confidence in the world that they are going to score runs when it's needed. We've done that all year, and we weren't going to stop now. So I felt pretty confident right there in the seventh, eight, ninth inning, if we had to go into extras, I would have felt confident, too.

Q. Landon, you guys are going to the finals. I know the team has never won a championship. How much would it mean to you and to the program to do that?

LANDON SIMS: It would mean everything, to us, to the school, to the city, I think it would mean the world. I think we have a really good shot to do it right here.

Q. A lot of discussion about bringing you in yesterday. How did you feel and how do you feel now?

LANDON SIMS: I was ready to go. And the situation presented itself yesterday. In a tight game, I don't think Coach wanted to pull the trigger. I think everybody in the program's perfectly fine with every decision he makes.

I felt good yesterday and I feel really good right now from a mental and a physical standpoint, so yeah.

Q. In your head, were you preparing to throw the 10th or did you expect the guys to walk it off there?

LANDON SIMS: I had to prepare a little bit for how ever many innings, I was going to have to go right there. But I had a pretty good feeling we were going to score a run right there and when Kellum got on base and then Brayland stole that base, I knew we were going to walk if off right there.

Q. What was your reaction when you saw Tanner make contact?

LANDON SIMS: Right when it went off the bat, I think everybody in the dugout knew that it was game right there. You know, he put a really good swing on it. Probably the best swing of his life; I think he would say that.

But you know, right off the bat, I think everybody in the dugout knew.
