TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP

June 26, 2021

Dustin Johnson

Cromwell, Connecticut, USA

TPC River Highlands

Quick Quotes

Q. Dustin, how would you assess the round out there today?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, today was, I mean, a little better. Gave myself a lot of looks. Hit a lot of greens. I think the only green, I maybe missed one green. I don't know. Made bogey but it wasn't like I -- it was a bad wedge shot.

But all in all it was really solid. Drove it nice. Hit a lot of nice iron shots. Yeah, it was pretty solid day.

Q. Just as the leaders start to go out this afternoon, how is the course playing out there?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: I mean, it's still soft, so it's gettable but you have got to drive it well. The wind picked up here definitely our last probably ten or twelve holes. It'll play somewhat difficult, but if you drive it well you can obviously attack the golf course.

Q. When you're kind of searching, not searching, but trying to get back on track like you are, how important was the finish yesterday to give yourself a chance for the weekend?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: Yeah, it was definitely good. I mean, I feel like I'm doing a lot of things really well. It's just every time I feel like I make a mistake it's a bogey.

When you're playing well, you miss a shot, you're grinding out the pars. That's just what I haven't been doing lately, or making big numbers, which I don't really do either.

So it's nice this week obviously playing solid. But to birdie the last two yesterday to make the cut, which I definitely wanted to be here for the weekend, and obviously go out today and shoot a nice score, it was good.

So I feel like the game is coming around.

Q. Is it sometimes one round can flip it?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: No. I have plenty of good rounds. The good rounds doesn't matter. It's more my shots, just seeing the right shape and hitting them solid, and consistency with my shots and distance control.

Then I know I'm starting to play well.

Q. One completely unrelated question. What's your favorite Ryder Cup memory that has nothing to do with playing golf, whether it's a speaker or some sort of gift?

DUSTIN JOHNSON: Man, that's -- a memory that doesn't have to do with golf?

Q. I guess it could deal with golf.

DUSTIN JOHNSON: I mean, I'll give you golf one first which would be the putt I made on 17 at Medina. For me that's one of my best memories just the roar. It was a crucial point in the match.

And then I mean the Ryder Cup itself is just so cool. There is not really one memory that sticks out, but everything about it is really special, and it's something that I really enjoy and want to be a part of.
