KPMG WOMEN'S PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

June 25, 2021

Cydney Clanton

Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Atlanta Athletic Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Cydney Clanton, you shot a pretty sweet 67 and that's a heck of a way to end a round with an eagle. Tell us about what happened on 18.

CYDNEY CLANTON: I got away with a drive. I might have tugged it just a little bit but hit it far enough and had 180 front, 193 flag, and with a little bit of juice in me, it was just a good 5-iron, and I striped it. I hit it so good. Randy reminded me as we were walking to the green that if I made it, he owed me 20, so that was a little bit more incentive to make it. So it's always sweet to take money from your caddie.

Q. What was the bet?

CYDNEY CLANTON: Just that I had to shoot 2-under the last four holes. So literally I just had to make the putt on 18, and I did it.

Q. You opened up with four birdies in the first six holes, pretty good way to start. Can you tell us about those?

CYDNEY CLANTON: Yeah, I hit it really close on 1. I had two feet on 1. Was able to hit the green in two on 2. And then was able to make a putt just off the green on the par-5, 5, and then I actually laid up on 6. I didn't go for it on 6 and kind of played a wedge in there and made a putt, and so did it the old-fashioned way on 6.

Q. Overall what are your thoughts about Atlanta Athletic Club? It seemed to be suiting you so far over the last two days.

CYDNEY CLANTON: Yeah, every major is going to be tough and you're going to have to play your best golf, and right now I'm hitting the ball pretty well. I would love to be a little bit more consistent off the tee. I've had a lot of fairway bunker shots, but I've found that the fairway bunkers are a little bit more doable than the rough. So I've been a little lucky there. I'm giving myself opportunities, and the more opportunities I can give myself, the better.

Q. You're probably going to be in the last or next to last group of a major heading into the weekend. What runs through your mind when you hear that?

CYDNEY CLANTON: It's obviously exciting. There's going to be a lot of emotions, there's going to be a lot of feels but you shouldn't be scared of those feels because that's what you want to feel. We're out here to compete and to win, and my biggest goal is to compete. I want to compete week in and week out, and to compete you have to be in these situations.

It's a blessing to be here. I'm very thankful to be here. I thank God that he's given me this opportunity, and I'm ready to go.
