Quick Quotes

Q. Gabi, take us through this eventful second day.

GABRIELA RUFFELS: It was good. I kind of had my back against the wall. I was 4-over yesterday, didn't play that great. I made a triple on 18 yesterday. I knew I had to go low today, and I told myself, you know, you could maybe go really low and do something special, and I ended up doing that. So it was pretty cool.

Q. You closed out there with that consecutive birdie streak. What was working so well for you there?

GABRIELA RUFFELS: Yeah, so I made birdie on 15, which had like two group hold-ups. So I knew that hole was playing hard. Making that, I knew I gained a couple strokes on the field there, and then I just kind of kept going. I knew I was hitting it well, I knew I was putting it well, and even last week, I thought I played pretty good, so it's nice to see it all come together.

Q. Could you tell us the difference between playing 18 yesterday and today, the strategy, the good, the bad. What happened?

GABRIELA RUFFELS: I think I just kind of knew the course a bit better today and kind of knew my caddie a bit better. It's always tough when you have a new caddie kind of every week, and that's what I've been doing. He's been great, and he started getting my numbers really good. I just kind of same game plan, to be honest. Just kind of executed it better today.

Q. So you went for it in two both days?

GABRIELA RUFFELS: On 18?

Q. Yeah, what are you talking about?

GABRIELA RUFFELS: On 18?

Q. You said you had trouble on 18 yesterday?

GABRIELA RUFFELS: Yeah, I hit it right for my third shot and then hit it in the water. It was kind of a bad hole. Got it back on the back nine yesterday a little bit, 1-under. Yeah, made four shots better on 18 today, so that was good.

Q. You're coming into this tournament as a special exemption. How satisfied are you with these first two days of play now heading potentially into the weekend?

GABRIELA RUFFELS: It's been great. I was so grateful to get the exemption into a major. I didn't even know that was possible. I found out last Monday, I'm pretty sure, before the Meyer, and I was super pumped to have two events. This is my last exemption on the LPGA. So hopefully, I can finish it on a good one.

Q. Was that in the back of your mind today as you were going through your round, kind of you don't have anything to lose?

GABRIELA RUFFELS: Yeah, for sure. It's my last exemption. I really enjoyed my time out here. It's been awesome. I kind of wanted to make the most of it, and I did do that today. So it was good.
