NBA WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS: CLIPPERS VS. SUNS

June 24, 2021

Terance Mann

LA Clippers

Game 3: Postgame

Los Angeles Clippers 106, Phoenix Suns 92

Q. What was it between the first half and halftime?

TERANCE MANN: I think just reading the game. I realized I need to be a little bit more aggressive in order for us to win or having a chance to win, especially when the game is going where we are just taking jump shots and not a lot of guys came downhill. I just put my head down and got downhill.

Q. You guys were able to slow down not only Devin in this game but also Chris coming back from COVID. What did you do specifically to slow down both members of the backcourt tonight?

TERANCE MANN: You know, we didn't do too much different from the first two games. We were just more aggressive defensively. That's all I could say we did. You know, we locked in, we watched film. We got two games to watch, so everybody watched those two games. Saw what we needed to do and executed.

Q. Ty was telling us that he made a lot of phone calls after Game 2 and got the guys on the same page after a tough loss. Did you have a conversation with him?

TERANCE MANN: Yeah, I just talked to him about what we got to do and that's pretty much it. Short conversation. We knew what we had to do, especially after Game 2. That could have went either way, so we knew what we needed to do.

Q. Marcus getting the start, what was that process and what does it mean to you --

TERANCE MANN: It's cool, but at this point, it doesn't matter, I don't care if I'm starting or coming off the bench. I'm just going to be me and bring the energy that this team needs.

Q. What did you think about Marcus playing?

TERANCE MANN: He still did a great job. He still did a great job. Hit some shots, played great defense and was in there battling on every rebound, fighting through it. He's a winner and he's a great leader. So just seeing him fight through it and be out there playing hard definitely helped us.

Q. What were you able to do to make it so difficult for Chris and Devin? You say you played aggressively but both of them got off to rough shooting starts.

TERANCE MANN: Nothing different. Nothing different. Just like I said be more aggressive, learning different spots and to stay in front of them. Learn different spots on how to contest their shots after watching the first two games. Seeing where they get to and what they like and things like that.

Q. After Game 2, tough loss, how did you take it individually and what did you guys as a team do?

TERANCE MANN: We have great leaders, man. The guys in the locker room are always positive, win or lose. Everybody is on the same page. It's a position we've been in before, two times, unfortunately. But yeah, everybody just stayed locked in. And all the vets just kept everybody on the same page, kept everybody positive. So it didn't really feel as bad as it was.

Q. Along those lines, Reggie said that Pat was pretty vocal at halftime; what did he say?

TERANCE MANN: Just keep our foot on the gas. You know, leads can go quick in this league if you're not locked in. So just he told everybody to keep his foot on the gas. Was telling everybody individually what he think they need to do and things like that.

Q. Is that normal Pat Bev or the anti Pat Bev?

TERANCE MANN: Definitely the normal Pat Bev. He's always like that.

Q. Everybody steps up so much on this team, but Reggie in particular in the fourth quarter has all these huge performances when it seems like the offense may be going stagnant. Have you guys come up with any kind of fourth quarter nickname for Reggie or do you guys talk amongst yourselves about his fourth quarter performances?

TERANCE MANN: No, no nicknames. At this point in the season it's regular for us when we see Reggie doing what he does in the fourth quarter. So we're just used to it. It's great for us. He brings great energy, great aggressiveness on the offensive side. So no nicknames. We're just used to Reggie being Reggie.

Q. Ty said after Game 6 that Kawhi got in the coaches huddle and talked about adjustments and talked to you guys, too. Did he come down and offer his thoughts at halftime?

TERANCE MANN: No, he didn't but he was there. He read the game and let Ty do his thing. He let us do our thing. He was real confident in the way we were playing. He definitely hits us up every now and then, just tell us what he sees and what we can do better.
