Quick Quotes

Q. Maria, 2-under 70. It's great to see a good round out of you. How is the knee feeling and how are you feeling after that round?

MARIA FASSI: I mean, amazing. It's been a minute since I've put a good round, played some great golf today, made some good putts for par. Took advantage of some of the par-5s and just very thankful to be out here.

The knee is doing good. It's holding up quite nicely, so I'm just excited for the week and happy for a good start.

Q. You did have a bunch of birdies out there, one bogey and one double, but tell us about those birdies, five of them. Any good numbers, any good stories out there?

MARIA FASSI: Yeah, I mean, I got off to a hot start. I almost made a hole-in-one on 4 after my double on 3, so I was pretty happy to see kind of that come back. I made good putts, had a couple others that just didn't fall, but overall I think it was a very solid round. Of course that double bogey kind of hurt it a little bit, but just very happy to be here and be with the fans again and get to enjoy their energy and their cheers and all of that.

Q. Are you someone that really feeds off that energy?

MARIA FASSI: Yes. Yeah, yeah, I noticed that this morning. I was very nervous on the first tee, and I hadn't felt that in a very long time, so I'm very happy that I kind of got those butterflies back.

Yeah, just happy for them to be out here, happy for us to have them back, and keep putting up a good show for them to enjoy.

Q. I know you had a procedure done on your knee. How is that doing and do you feel it's been helpful as you come back?

MARIA FASSI: Yeah. I mean, I think it was the best decision. Of course it sucks that I had to be out for seven weeks, but I think it was what my body and my mind needed. It's in good shape. I'm playing without pain, which I hadn't done in a while, as well. So just very happy with how it went, and the recovery process has been amazing.

Q. On 18 you are probably one of the very few players that went for it in two. Can you describe how you played 18 today and your distances there?

MARIA FASSI: Yeah, I hit a good one off the tee. We had 238 to the hole. It was 227 to the front. We actually switched my 5-wood in this week. I usually play with a 3 and a 7, and this week we felt like the 5-wood was going to be needed more, and we sure did need it on 18. Hit a good 5-wood into the left bunker, and I wasn't able to convert, but it was pretty good to see those two good shots down the stretch.
