Quick Quotes

Q. You've been in contention lately. Your game is looking pretty good. How do you feel about this week?

LEONA MAGUIRE: Yeah, I've been playing really nice. Played really nice in San Francisco and obviously had my best finish on the LPGA last week, so really happy with where my game is at.

This week is definitely a different test. The course is playing long, so a lot different to last week I would say. But yeah, it's a major. It's going to be a tough test, so looking forward to getting started tomorrow.

Q. What compensates for you on a golf course like this? There's longer players like you, but you have other skills. What are the main things that are going to work here?

LEONA MAGUIRE: Yeah, I think just try and hit as many fairways as I can. As wet as it is you want to stay out of the rough, hit a lot of greens. Yeah, I'm generally pretty good with my hybrid and my 9-wood, so I think I'll have to rely on them a lot this week until the course firms up.

So take advantage of the par-5s when I can, working on my wedges, try and give myself as many birdie opportunities as I can on them, and yeah, take my chances where I get them and just try and make par on the long holes.

Q. There's been two main conversations this week. One is the announcement of the new stats for the LPGA, and it might show that women might be good at some parts of their game than men. What would be your guess?

LEONA MAGUIRE: Yeah, I mean, I would definitely say probably accuracy is going to be higher maybe on the women's side because we don't hit it as far but we definitely -- you put a wedge or an iron in a lot of the girls' hands they're going to knock it pretty close.

Yeah, I think it's really exciting to see how the stats go out. I think people have been sort of wanting it for a long time, so I think it's going to be great to help us with our games, and also for the fans, as well, to follow along and all the other implications that go along with it.

Q. With the Olympics, you're probably following what's been happening. A lot of men kind of pulling out while the women are all committed and making any effort they can to make it there. Why do you think that happens?

LEONA MAGUIRE: Yeah, I mean, I guess it's up to each person to make their own personal choice. I had an incredible time last time in Rio and really want to go back again to Tokyo. For me it was an easy decision, but I guess it's up to everyone to make their own choice, and I think the people that are going are really excited to experience the Olympics.

I think it should be a really fun event in Tokyo. I know Japan -- golf is massive in Japan, even more so now that Hideki won the Masters, so it's going to be a really, really good experience out there.
