CINCH CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 20, 2021

Cameron Norrie

London, England, UK

Queens Club

Press Conference

M. BERRETTINI/C. Norrie

6-4, 6-7, 6-3

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Fantastic week to get to the final obviously. What's it like to face a player who is just bombing down those aces with regularity? How do you think you played in that final?

CAMERON NORRIE: Yeah, I think I played okay. The first set I just donated him the break, and that was the first set. I didn't have any really chances on his serve. But he's tricky because he's obviously serving very good first and second serve, and then you're back to serving very quickly. Obviously not easy, but I did everything I could.

Again, it was just a couple points, and especially even in the tiebreak it was just one point. That's what it probably needed to come down to the third set as well. I think I had a little sniff of a chance in the start of the third set, and I was slightly too aggressive on a forehand I think at 15-All, and it was just such small margins against a player like that.

Yeah, really pleased with how I played. Just too good in the end. Couple lapses in concentration. That was it.

Q. I guess that's what stood out from the match. I just wondered, have you faced anyone that serves quicker than that, or would that be about as big as it gets?

CAMERON NORRIE: Yeah, he served great. Especially looking at the stats, it was racquet-out-of-the-hand kind of stuff. He served very good. It was similar to Raonic kind of level for me. The couple times I have played Raonic, I didn't really get a chance at all. Yeah, his service games were rolling by very quickly. It was not easy.

I thought I managed my service games well, for the most part. Yeah, there was a couple of loose shots, and that was it.

Q. Wondering what your plans are for next week. Are you entered into Eastbourne?

CAMERON NORRIE: Yes, I'm still in. I'm not sure if I'm going to play. We'll have to see. I'm going to see how I feel tonight. Yeah, we'll see.

If not, I will rest, practice a couple days in London, and check into the Wimbledon bubble and get ready for that.

Obviously it's good to have so many matches on the grass. It's been a great week for me. I'm happy with how it all went and having that amount of time on the match court as well. I'll have to have a think about the Eastbourne situation.

Q. Just looking forward to Wimbledon, you're playing great, you're going to be seeded, you have the home crowd behind you. Have you ever looked forward to a Grand Slam more? You think you're in your best form ever going into one?

CAMERON NORRIE: Yeah, it's obviously a bit exciting to be seeded. I think I was in some of my best form as well in Lyon, so heading into the French Open I was feeling very confident there. Definitely a week like this helps to feel like you're ready, and especially on the movement side of things on the grass.

So it was massive for me to obviously make the final and then to pick up that seeding, so that's obviously huge too. And then knowing that you're not going to get drawn against one of the top guys to start is another bonus.

Yeah, a lot of positives from the week. Yeah, feeling good and looking forward to Wimbledon and looking forward to seeing the crowds back again like I did this week.

Q. On that seeding, I presume making the second week now is something you want to look to be doing as you go to the slams, and presumably now you have been seeded once you want to make sure you keep being seeded for all the rest of the slams?

CAMERON NORRIE: Yeah, that would be nice. Obviously I'm just going to take care of the first round and take it match by match. We'll see.

Yeah, looking forward to the rest of the year. I know that my favorite surface is the hard, so I'm most comfortable on that. We'll see.

It's just hopefully these bubbles improve. It's getting tricky obviously with the travel and with the bubbles, so hopefully that improves. Hopefully it will be maybe just the one more week of the Wimbledon bubble, and then hopefully it frees up a little bit.

No, I'm very happy with the seeding. Yeah, we'll take it every day of the week.

Q. Do you ever get a chance to spend your money? Obviously got a nice payday here. You're playing tennis at the moment. Do you ever get a chance to...

CAMERON NORRIE: Not really, no. I mean, pretty locked in I guess at the tennis. Yeah, I mean, a lot of tennis expenses I'm spending it on, I guess, a lot of restrings and grips and everything.

No, it's obviously been good to make the final and pick up a big check, but I'm just really happy with the way I'm playing and the way I'm handling things. Yeah, it's all that stuff. In the end it's just a bonus.

I'm happy I'm playing tennis and doing that for a living. So I'm very lucky and very fortunate to be doing that.
