Quick Quotes

Q. Take me through just the week and how pleased you are with where you finished and maybe what you left out there.

LEONA MAGUIRE: Yeah, I mean, could have been a lot better; could have been a lot worse. It was one of those days.

Got off to a really nice start on Thursday and didn't feel like I had my best golf all week, even on Thursday. I just holed a lot of putts and just grinded it out through the middle two days.

Yesterday I guess I got behind the eight ball the second and third day. Was fighting my way back but hung in there. Yeah, I mean, when your ball gets stuck in a tree and takes however many minutes to drop down you know it's going to be one of those days.

It was nice to finish with an eagle yesterday and take that momentum into today. I finished with another under par round. It's not easy out there. You have to hit a lot of good shots, a lot of fairways, a lot of greens. Felt like I got it back on track sort of back nine yesterday and today, which hopefully will sort of carry that over to next week and heading into a major.

Q. I feel like that's kind of your story with the ball in a tree. It's like one of those things where you see like, I don't know, you don't even see that, but you see certain things in golf that just never happen and that was one of them.

LEONA MAGUIRE: Uh-huh.

Q. Have you ever experienced anything remotely close to that?

LEONA MAGUIRE: No. I mean, we were looking up, trying to see if we could identify something and then a ball dropped, and I honestly thought it was from the range because it was quite a thud when it landed.

And then there was the hole kerfuffle like can we play it, can we not, whatever. In hindsight I probably wish I would've called for a second referee. It's one of those rookie mistakes.

Yeah, live and learn. Felt like I hung in there and came back. Didn't let it affect me too much.

Q. The other day after round one you said it's not always about the birdies you do make, but the bogeys you don't make, I do believe.

LEONA MAGUIRE: Uh-huh.

Q. Does that sound right?

LEONA MAGUIRE: Yeah, I think it's very true for this golf course. These kind of courses it's easy to let it get away from you, especially on poa annua greens. I suppose the thing I'm most proud of this week is the way I putted on these greens. I putted terribly in Kia and terribly in LA on poa annua greens, and spent a lot the time trying to get them right and felt like we did this week for the most part.

That's encouraging for when we come back to poa annua greens again.

Q. Yeah, we talked about how Ana picks your brain a lot and how you don't have all the answers and you're still learning. When you have kind of some of the challenges you faced this weekend in particular, is it a weekend where you look back and you learned quite a bit from it moving forward?

LEONA MAGUIRE: Yeah, absolutely. You have to put yourself in those positions to know how you're going to react and then know what you did right and figure out what you would do differently next time.

There are a few things I would change, but I just didn't have control over my irons, and hitting into these greens you need to have control over your irons.

So felt like I figured out a little bit today. Bit of work again tomorrow when I get to Meijer, and hopefully can hit the ground running next week.

Q. Meijer next week; another major in a couple weeks. What's the goals, I guess ambitions that you have for the next couple weeks with the event in Grand Rapids and then a major?

LEONA MAGUIRE: I keep putting myself in those positions is what -- I had a new caddie on the bag this week, so this week was kind of trying to figure that out a little bit as well. I think we were fortunate that we clicked pretty early on, which was good.

Yeah, just there was a lot of thinking this week with the wind, with the fog coming in, just different things. There will be a lot of that at the major I would guess, too.

So yeah, just trying to learn all I can from these past sort of two, three days. Work that into hopefully when I'm in that position again.
