ROLAND GARROS

June 6, 2021

Dominik Koepfer

Paris, France

Press Conference

R. FEDERER/D. Koepfer

7-6, 6-7, 7-6, 7-5

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. You played well. What could you learn from this match with Federer?

DOMINIK KOEPFER: Yeah, I thought I gave everything I had. First set was a little nerves. If I win that, maybe story looks a little different. But, yeah, I mean, tiebreaks, just one point here or there.

First one I didn't play great. In the third he played a good tiebreak. Yeah, match goes away.

Yeah, obviously disappointing, but I'm happy with how I competed, how I fought, how I stayed in the match, how I battled the entire way and gave it my all. Nothing I really regret.

Yeah, it was just a match that I lost a few points here or there, but, yeah, I mean, and in the end it was probably nerves a little bit. Yeah, it is what it is.

Q. A situation with the point penalty doesn't happen very often in tennis. Did you disagree with it? Do you think it was unfair? What happened to you?

DOMINIK KOEPFER: No, it's fine, if you get a point penalty, you get a point penalty. Told me I can't spit. I don't know. COVID rule. I mean, on clay I, like, spit and wipe it up with the shoes. I don't know what the issue is.

It is. It is what it is. No, it's totally fine. Obviously in the moment I was obviously pissed, but that's just tennis. It happens here and there. No big deal.

Q. Did he surprise you? He looked like he was pretty tired there at times in the match but he found what he needed as the match went on. Do you think you had the advantage there physically at some point?

DOMINIK KOEPFER: I mean, yeah, in the third set, in the beginning he looked a little tired. But, yeah, I mean, he's played many five-set matches before, so I don't think that was the issue. He looked pretty good, pretty fit. He didn't seem to struggle much at the end. So I don't think he is -- I mean, obviously doing five-set matches, two-and-a-half hours, there is going to be phases where you're going to be a little tired.

Yeah, I think he's 39 years old, however old he is and he's still crazy fit. I don't think that was the issue.
