LPGA MEDIHEAL CHAMPIONSHIP

June 12, 2021

Lydia Ko

Daly City, California, USA

Lake Merced Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. You've got a lot of fans here at Lake Merced. You've had obviously a great track record here. With that in mind, your track record, and the fact that the leaders don't really seem to be pulling away, what are your thoughts about being three shots back at the moment going into tomorrow?

LYDIA KO: Yeah, I felt like overall I played pretty solid today. Got a few loose ones out there, but at the end of the day I feel like no matter what round you have you feel like you could have done better.

I think even though the wind has been a little bit calmer than I would've expected, the course itself is pretty tricky. I think coming off a long week like last week probably players are very tired, so there is a bit of fatigue in there.

Yeah, I just got to go out there and play my own game tomorrow and see what happens. Obviously a lot of golf to still be played by the leaders. Yeah, hopefully I'll still be in reaching distance and have a fun one tomorrow.

Q. I know something that keeps you tuned in is the fact that you love this area so much. Why is it specifically you're so connected to this area?

LYDIA KO: I first came here in 2012 for the U.S. Junior Girls and I feel like I've gotten to know a lot of members here. It's just a really warm community. You love coming back to a place where they're excited to see us play.

It's a little different this year with it only being members to watch us play. I just get good vibes, and no matter if I'm having a good or bad day on the golf course, just being here just kind of warms my heart. This is where I had my first win as an LPGA Tour member, and it's just only good memories here.

So I love coming back here, and hopefully more opportunities to play here in Daly City and San Francisco itself.

Q. You're a member here and you have a plague out on the fairway. What's that like for you to walk by that? And your caddie stepped on it today.

LYDIA KO: Yeah, I was like, Derek, this is the one place you can't hit it to. No, when they said they were going to make that plague after my second shot on that first playoff hole it's obviously a huge honor to be part of history here.

I feel like when I come here not even for a tournament but in off weeks as well, they kind of take me in as their own. I love it. It's a great community. I think everything is just so awesome here. I just love everything about it.

Q. I hope when they renovate the golf course they keep that plague there. That has to stay forever.

LYDIA KO: I'll be a little sad if it's gone. I've got some photos to at least cherish it. I'm excited to see what the course is going to be like after Gil Hanse does his magic to it.

Q. So going off Kay, this third round I feel like we finally got the Daly City fog when we went from sunny skies to the marine layer. Just your thoughts overall after today.

LYDIA KO: It was pretty amazing actually to see the fog roll in. I think we first saw it on the 4th or 5th hole. It was amazing how low it is, and then obviously it came back in our last few holes.

Yeah, no, definitely got the full picture of what you would expect here in San Francisco. No, overall I thought I played pretty solid. Had a few where I felt like it kind of got away from me.

Other than that, just enjoying my time here. And the weather is actually been pretty beautiful the last few days, so enjoying our last day, tomorrow will be the last day, in Daly City, San Francisco.

Q. I know you had a fun pairing today with Annie and Lindy. Have you had played with Lindy in competition in a little bit?

LYDIA KO: I think the last time we played was in Japan and it was at least in 2018 maybe. I know we've played -- feels like it hasn't been that long just because we play so frequently back home. Yeah, it's been a while. When we saw the pairing, like last couple days she played with Su, and Su was the first one like, Oh, you and Lindy are playing together.

Yeah, no, I enjoyed it, and obviously Annie is a great player to play with as well. Had a good pairing. Doesn't get much better than that one, yeah.
