May 26, 2021

Amy Olson

Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Shadow Creek

Quick Quotes

Q. Amy Olson, that was an amazing match between and you Bronte Law. Ended up tied. Walk us through the last couple holes. You had a lead and a nice fist pump on the final hole to take the tie.

AMY OLSON: Yeah, you know, coming down 16 I was 1up and we both just made pars; pretty uneventful going into 17. I'm teeing off first and 141 to the flag, just a little part 8-iron that I needed, and I hit it and I thought it was absolutely perfect, and it just got caught up in the air.

I don't know if there was a little breeze coming into us. It was so still out there it was hard to tell. Plugs in the face of the bunker. Didn't get up and down, so go into the last one all square.

And 18 is a great hole. We both -- Bronte flared hers a little right. I thought my drive was going to be good but it was in the first cut on a little bit of downslope and I couldn't get it in the air, so came up in the water.

But a good up and down with a 9-iron to at least force her to make a five-footer to halve the match.

Q. And that's where you learn about match play, it's all about that one hole in front of you. How much of a mental challenge were all 18 holes today with Bronte who's one of the ultimate competitors in match play?

AMY OLSON: Yeah, there is no give up in Bronte whatsoever. She's not going to give you anything. Even if she's out of position on a hole you just never know what she's going to do.

So you just got to keep focused on your shot and assume that you just got to make every putt. But she played really well. It was a really hard-fought match on both sides.

Q. Pat Hurst out there watching, you're on her radar for the Solheim Cup team. Did you know she was out there and are you using this as an opportunity to state your case as to why she should pick you?

AMY OLSON: Yeah, she's been out quite a few tournaments this year and she is considering everyone, even if you're a little bit out of it. She just really wants to make sure she has the best team, and that's what we obviously want on Team USA, whoever is playing well at the time.

Obviously hoping to put in a good performance, but hopefully I just earn my way in and don't need a pick.

Q. This is a beast of a golf course. You did unfortunately see all 18 today, but at least you've got some experience on them now. What are your takeaways on this golf course? It seems absolutely spectacular.

AMY OLSON: I mean, from the minute I set foot on this course I absolutely loved it. Every single hole has so much visual interest, whether it's a stream or the bunkering or rock formation s. It's absolutely stunning.

Beyond that, it's a really good test of golf as well. It's playing firm, but you've really got to place your shots in the right spot and there are places you don't want to miss. You really got to think you're way around this golf course.

Q. What's it like to have match play back? I know you excelled in match play as an amateur. It's got to be nice to have it back on the schedule.

AMY OLSON: Yeah, it has been so long since I played match play. I was so excited for this week and I'm just glad that it is back on tour.
