BANK OF HOPE LPGA MATCH-PLAY

May 26, 2021

Sarah Kemp

Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Shadow Creek

Quick Quotes

Q. Sarah, to get a half match out there. Tied your match with Patty. Still a great back and forth match. No matter what, it's still a point in your column. How are you feeling right now?

SARAH KEMP: Yeah, pretty good. Yeah, like you say, a point is better than no point. Yeah we had a really up and down match. Patty got 1-up and then I was couple up and it was back and forth.

We both played pretty solid, so it's good to get a pin on the board.

Q. Exactly. If you could, walk us through the stretch at 11, 12, 13 where you won three in a row to go 2-up.

SARAH KEMP: Goodness, it's tough to remember out there. 11 I made a par. I holed a good -- that's a tricky little short par-4. Really wants you to hit driver, but we both kind of laid up. And then I got up and down, Patty didn't.

And then I birdied 12, which is good.

And then 13 is tough par-3 and made a solid par there, so that got me to 2-up, yeah.

Q. What are your thoughts on match play? I know we don't get to play it a lot. What's your background with match play?

SARAH KEMP: Yeah, I played it a lot as an amateur and a junior in Australia. We have a lot of match play interstate series kind of state versus state games.

I've only ever played it the one time the LPGA had one. It was like six or seven years back in New Jersey. I played Karrie Webb of all people. So that's the last time I played match play.

But I love it. Yeah, I wish we had more of those events. It's really fun.

Q. What's the mentality shift from stroke play to match play?

SARAH KEMP: I feel like, yeah, there are a lot of putts you can hit a little firmer, which is sort of fun. I had a few putts there coming in that I needed to make, and I hit it with a little firmer pace. So that's fun, because you don't have to worry about the one coming back.

At the end of the day you still want to make birdies, and that usually gets you points.

Q. And you had a good finish last week playing well and had a good jump up the reshuffle. How are you feeling on your game right now?

SARAH KEMP: Yeah, it's great. Very happy with how the start to the year has gone. Yeah, trending nicely and looking forward to the rest of the year.
