Stacy Lewis

Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Shadow Creek

Quick Quotes

Q. Stacy Lewis, eked out a tie today.

STACY LEWIS: Uh-huh.

Q. Take us through the last two holes. You said it wasn't the prettiest golf, but you managed to win them to tie the match.

STACY LEWIS: Yeah, so 17 is just a really tricky par-3. You probably -- you're not going to see very many balls on the green there in general. Made a really good up and down there. Made about a five, six-footer to win the hole.

Then 18 we both hit it in the bunker off the tee. I laid it up a little further. Sarah was further back and she missed the greens with her third shot. I had a tough little 50-yarder over the water and I actually just played it left of the hole because I knew I couldn't keep it on the green going at the hole.

So I just tried to play smart, and luckily par was good enough.

Q. You had a nice long conversation with Pat Hurst out there.

STACY LEWIS: Can't divulge any details, sorry.

Q. That's okay. I won't ask that. I would imagine she saw those last two holes.

STACY LEWIS: Yeah, she said it was a very veteran move on 18, so...

She's like, That's why I want you there in Toledo, so...

Q. Nice. How much of an example can you set with efforts like that for some of the maybe younger guns trying to make the Solheim Cup team this year?

STACY LEWIS: Yeah, I mean, more than anything I want to show Pat that I'm playing well, that I want to be part of the team and I want to there be in Toledo. I feel like I can help. I feel like my perspective on things has changed lots since I've had Chesnee, especially in a team environment like that.

So I really feel like I can be of help if I'm on this team, not only with my golf game, but with what goes on off the golf course, too. So I'm just trying to work hard, and told her that I'm going to keep working my butt off to make that team.

Q. Sarah Kemp has had a few good weeks now. You fell behind early but scrapped back, and you guys went back and forth in the middle. What did you find that was kind of right in the game to keep things so close and then come out with a tie?

STACY LEWIS: There was a lot of good golf. We really went back and forth there in the middle making a ton of birdies. Halved the par-5 with birdies. I missed one -- actually hit it inside of her on 8 and missed my putt for birdie, so it was really good golf up until the last holes.

But kind of hit -- pressure hits you differently, but Sarah has been playing so well. I just had a feeling our match was going to go to 17, 18 holes. I mean, it was just we're both playing well. She played well last week, as did I. So she's hitting a lot of good golf shots, too.

Q. You have Patty tomorrow. Put yourself in a chance to win and advance to the round of 16. How exciting is that to be in that position and just kind of be able to control what you can to move on?

STACY LEWIS: Yeah, this format is a little strange. We're still trying to figure out how it all works. Feel like you do all this work to get to the point tomorrow where you do have an opportunity to advance, and so you kind of have to throw everything out, forget about what you did the last two days, and really just comes down to tomorrow.

I've never played with Patty, don't really know her, but I'm looking forward to it.
