KITCHENAID SENIOR PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

May 28, 2021

Alex Cejka

Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA

Quick Quotes

Southern Hills Country Club

THE MODERATOR: Welcome back to the 2021 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship. We're here at Southern Hills Country Club, Tulsa, Oklahoma. We're with Alex Cejka. Even par, 70 today. 3-under par for the championship at this very moment T-2. Alex, doesn't look like you started as well as you might have wanted to, but you grinded after that, got it back here to level and probably feel pretty good about how it came together.

ALEX CEJKA: It was a big grind today. I actually hit good shots, I just 3-putted my first hole, so that was not a good start or the start I wanted. But I hit good shots. I didn't drive it as well, I was a couple times in the rough what made it really, really challenging and I made a couple really good up-and-downs.

Overall, I'm really, really pleased the way I finished and I just didn't want to lose too much ground for the weekend.

Q. Is this the kind of golf course and now you're playing four rounds where you just kind of have to hang around?

ALEX CEJKA: Exactly. You know, four rounds, walking, tough course, tough conditions, you know what I mean? So you have to grind all 72 holes. Everything is possible, it all depends on the course setup. It's already a tough setup, with the wind it makes it really, really tricky. You've got to sometimes hit really gutsy shots. If you pull them off it's great. If you don't pull them off it's, you struggle with pars.

But again, I'm really happy how I performed today. Again, I didn't want to lose too much ground, that was my goal today.

Q. How big a bonus was making the birdie at 8? What did you hit in there?

ALEX CEJKA: That was good. I flushed a 5-iron and I had like 20 feet, big downhill, big right-to-left putt. And I've been putting well all week, just didn't make them, the pace was a little bit off today, and that one was perfect, we read it perfectly. So that's a bonus to finish like even par. 1-under would have sting a little bit, but, you know, it's been a great day. Tough day though.
