KITCHENAID SENIOR PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

May 28, 2021

Bob Sowards

Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA

Quick Quotes

Southern Hills Country Club

THE MODERATOR: Good morning and welcome to the 2021 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship. We're here at Southern Hills Country Club, Tulsa Oklahoma. We're joined by Bob Sowards, who just finished his first round here with a 3-under 67. Right at the top of the leaderboard. Really good looking scorecard there. Maybe talk about how you played yesterday and how much of that continued into this morning.

BOB SOWARDS: I played solid. I hit a lot of fairways, a lot of greens. I didn't put myself in too many bad spots. Made a good putt on my first hole today and just hit greens and made 2-putts.

Q. You have played in so many of these and such a seasoned club pro. What's your comfort level as you come here?

BOB SOWARDS: You're always nervous, even if it's a section tournament, a small tournament you're always nervous starting out. If I keep praying well I'm sure I'll be more nervous as we go, but I've played well being nervous before, so I look forward to it.

THE MODERATOR: Are you taking anything away -- you had a really solid finish at Oak Hill two years ago in this very championship. Does that give you some comfort here this week?

BOB SOWARDS: Yeah, absolutely. Oak Hill was a course that beat me up in the two PGAs I played and I know I've improved a lot since then, so try and just really trying to play -- it's a cliche -- but one shot at a time. My caddie keeps telling me middles of the greens, because if you start shooting at pins out here you catch the little false right, false edges and go off.

So my goal this week is, my daughter's going to college, so pay for a couple years of college hopefully, that's the goal.

Q. The highlights, made a birdie, where was your birdie this morning?

BOB SOWARDS: I had hit my second shot on 4 to about 15 feet before they blew the horn so that was my first shot, that putt, and I made that putt. So it was a good start.
