KITCHENAID SENIOR PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

May 27, 2021

Brandt Jobe

Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA

Quick Quotes

Southern Hills Country Club

JOHN DEVER: Good afternoon, welcome back to the 2021 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, Southern Hills. Tulsa Oklahoma. We are joined by Brandt Jobe, who posted a 1-over par 71 today. Brandt, a lot of pars out there, steady golf, I would probably estimate, maybe you agree or disagree.

BRANDT JOBE: For the most part. The couple bogeys I had there, two 3-putt and a missed 3-footer. So it was pretty clean golf, just didn't make a lot of putts. I had trouble with the speed. I was either leaving them short or hitting them too hard. So I just couldn't get the speed down very well today.

JOHN DEVER: What did you experience out there in terms of the golf course, the wind, was it increasing as the morning went on, I mean what did you find out there?

BRANDT JOBE: It is, it's getting more -- the last five holes we played were probably the windiest holes and there's just certain holes that are kind of exposed that play a little more difficult with the pin positions, but it's playing tough. It's all you want.

JOHN DEVER: Are you feeling fortunate in terms of the golf tournament to get in here, get your round complete and you can just -- I know you're going somewhere we'll talk about that in a minute, but just sit back and see if the weather comes in this afternoon?

BRANDT JOBE: Well that's kind of how this is, it's pot luck. And it looks like right now we kind of got the better end of it, being able to finish with like you said the weather coming in and we don't know what's going to happen. So right now we're done, I had a solid round, so that's positive. Obviously wish it was a little better, but good start to a tough week.

JOHN DEVER: You're a native Oklahoman, still live here. I know you've been around the world in between, but how fun is it for you -- this must have been one on your long-range calendar looking forward to. Is there a certain thrill here playing at home?

BRANDT JOBE: There's no doubt about it. It's fun to play at home. Kind of fun, a group of us from Oak Tree, Willie Wood and Scott Verplank and I came up last week. We were the only three guys that played the golf course and they were nice enough to let us go out. So it's a home game. I had a bunch of friends that came up today, a bunch more coming. So it's kind of nice because they don't always understand exactly what you're doing, they see it and they watch it, but they don't get it. When they come here it's kind of this, is more real life and what we do. So a really fun week for me this week.

JOHN DEVER: Good we hope we continue it and enjoy it. Questions?

Q. How fortunate was it for you the fact that the Senior PGA just kind of lined up with you would get to be home when Jackson was graduating?

BRANDT JOBE: I got lucky. We were hoping and praying for an early Thursday tee time and got it. So he graduates tonight at 6 so I'm headed back to Oklahoma City and I would not, I would not -- if I ended up getting a late tee time, that's the way it went, I would have had to withdraw. So you got to watch them graduate high school, they only do it once and they're going to move on, so I was going to be there. And it's been a long week because I've been back and forth three times already, he's had a lot going on ending up the year, so it's all good stuff.

Q. He's following in your steps as an athlete. I know how high his ceiling is for the MLB draft. What's it been like for you as a dad to see his progression and how many how much notoriety he was getting?

BRANDT JOBE: I was glad to see the season end. It's been a lot of work for me. It's pretty neat to watch him start the season kind of at the very end of the first round and now they're, there's projections he's in the top-10 in the first round. It's kind of mind-boggling, your 18-year-old son is going to do that. So we'll see, there's still a lot of baseball to be played on the collegiate side and I'm sure this thing's going to move all over the place, but he had a pretty incredible year and he's worked hard, that's the one thing I'm proud about him is I told him, I said, you got to out work everyone. That's just the way this is. If you want to be the best, I mean go look at Tiger Woods, he worked out, he out worked everybody. From his body to his game. And that's what it takes and that's kind of what I'm trying to tell him. No one's going to tell you to do it, do it on your own. So he's kind of taken that to heart and it's been impressive to watch.

Q. From the golf perspective is it nice for you to be able to kind of step away a little bit to kind of today to kind of get away from the game or are you still going to be pretty focused on the tournament when you go to the graduation?

BRANDT JOBE: No, I will be. Driving down there it's all about going to graduation tonight and when I get in that car probably about 10 o'clock tonight and driving back I'll be thinking about what's going on here and obviously kind of paying attention to what's happening with the weather here tonight too.
