KITCHENAID SENIOR PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

May 27, 2021

John Huston

Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA

Quick Quotes

Southern Hills Country Club

THE MODERATOR: 1-under par 69 to open the championship. You're known as player who can heat up quick and you did on your, I believe your back nine. Three birdies and an eagle coming on in. That must feel good and kind of got you over the hump there.

JOHN HUSTON: Yeah, I feel like the first nine I played pretty good. I had one really bad break on 17 and made double, but I was fortunate enough to hang around and then take advantage of the chances that I got at the end.

THE MODERATOR: What did you see out there in terms of this golf course? I don't know what you remember from back in the day, but was the wind more present as the day went on or what kind of observations did you have?

JOHN HUSTON: Late in the day just the last few holes I thought the wind played a pretty big factor. We got most of our round in with kind of a predictable wind and then the last few holes it was a little bit unpredictable. So I would imagine if it stays like this it's going to be pretty hard this afternoon.

THE MODERATOR: Does that mean you're a guy who likes the wind, a wind player, because you played well in that spat.

JOHN HUSTON: Yeah, theoretically. I grew up in Florida so I should be accustomed to the wind. But you still got to hit the shots.

THE MODERATOR: What do you expect for the guys who are playing this afternoon if they're able to get this in? What kind of golf course is this? Is it a shot maker's, second-shot golf course, what's your observations?

JOHN HUSTON: Yeah, most of it is the greens are pretty tricky. Obviously you have to put it in play, there's some layup holes that you got to hit the right club off the tee. But it will be tricky this afternoon if it stays windy like this, if they get to keep playing. If it were to storm really bad and wet down the course and they come back out tomorrow, it could be totally different.

THE MODERATOR: You must feel good to get your round in and know where you are and you can relax, practice, whatever the case may be this afternoon?

JOHN HUSTON: Definitely.
